Editorial Review for Blue Ribbon Sushi Brooklyn – by Ben Williams
The Scene
Blue Ribbon addresses Brooklyn's top-notch sushi deficit with a handsomely appointed outpost that, like next door's Blue Ribbon Brooklyn, is superior to its Manhattan sibling. The tastefully understated decor is heavy on dark, solid wood and most importantly, space. Aside from the large, glowing sushi bar, the seating is all booths, and they're set well-apart, too. Service is friendly and efficient.
The Food
Staples are mostly well-executed, but it's the more original dishes that set this place apart, like the Dynamite, a delicious broiled sea scallop, mushroom and smelt roe appetizer presented in an open shell with a golden-brown crust. Maki rolls feature luxe confections like a juicy eel, avocado and radish roll, and the Blue Ribbon, a divine combination of lobster, shisho and black caviar. Sushi and sashimi range from good to excellent--don't miss the melting, buttery o-toro special (bluefin tuna belly) if it's available.

Insider Tips
Save MoneyAt $75 for two, omakase (the chef's selection of the day's best dishes) is reasonably priced. It's a good choice, especially if you're not sure what to order.
Know Before You GoOnly large parties can make reservations, but most nights, the wait for a table is less than an hour.
The ExtrasIf you're not in the mood for sushi, you'll find just about everything else next door at Blue Ribbon Brooklyn.

I have lived in Park Slope for a few years and I finally decided to give this place a try. I was really, really disappointed. The waitress was rude and the service was really slow even though there was only one other occupied table in the restaurant. The soup I ordered had very fresh vegetables in it but it was otherwise tasteless. My companion ordered a sushi platter and he said the fish was fresh but not worth the expensive price we paid. The dessert, on the other hand, was the best I've ever tasted so that saved the evening from being a total disaster. The decor is great, really beautiful but I would have preferred to have an all around great meal especially for the prices. I have eaten at Yamato, 168 7th Avenue in Brooklyn, several times and it has always been so delicious. If you are looking for great sushi I would suggest going there instead.
Pros: nice interior
Cons: not worth it
