Lobster Roll it is not.. I'd like to consider myself somewhat of a foodie after living in nyc for 9 years and trying to visit a new restaurant at least twice a month, though we all know its hard to veer from the tried tested and true delight of your local haunts. Mermaid Inn a 4 year old establishment (i've walked past it a couple times on my way to Franks) was this month?s new adventure. With the summer coming to a close and the need to stay in town over the Labor Day holiday my husband and I were looking for something to bring the nostalgia of mid-summer Montauk dinners to mind. Double Lobster Sandwiches - griddled buns, old bay fries would do the trick for sure. We ordered a bottle of wine and forgoed an appetizer to hold out for dessert in celebration of the last dog days of summer. Clearly this was a seafood spot that looked to fill the bill: nautical themed, dark wood, white and red wine that compliments any sea worthy meal. The most expensive item on the menu is the Lobster Sandwich ($26) not very expensive for crustaceans, true, but in Maine the Lobster Rolls are a mere $12 and I?d eaten five in a recent two-day trip so this Sandwich had promise for sure. When we both placed the same ordered the waitress said ?Smart People? ? smart in her eyes because the bill would be higher then the table next to us eating seafood pasta. Not more then five minutes came the catsup, cold plates and warm buns. The Lobster Sandwich should be called a Lobster Salad Sandwich ? filled with mayo and onions. A huge disappointment especially since my husband only eats HOT seafood. The ?old bay? fries were tacky. I?m not even sure there was potato in these skinny, undercooked clearly frozen poor excuse for chips. Our celebratory dessert?..a complimentary chocolate mousse. No dessert served here. I?d recommend skipping this place altogether. Save your night out for a better locale. Cheers.

Great Service, Amazing Lobster Sandwich. There is a lot of grumpy service in this city, but not at this place. The Mermaid Inn was a greatly needed breath of fresh air. Everyone I talked to from the host to our waitress was helpful and friendly. The food was amazing too. I had the shrimp scampi and the lobster sandwich and both were phenomenol. I'm no rookie to the NYC lobster roll scene either. This was the best I've had.

Save your money. We had the lobster roll ( too much mayo! ),fried oysters (tiny and shriveled up) and oysters on the half shell, we had to send one back b/c it looked butchered. Tried the sardine in hopes of something a little original, but was overwhelmed with salt. The calamari was the worst I have ever had. I may be being a little harsh, but when you spend that kind of money you expect something half way descent.

Another Lovely Visit to the Inn!. I've been here a few times before, and when I asked my friend where she'd like to go for her birthday dinner, she immediately requested Mermaid Inn & their lobster rolls. We always have a lovely meal here. I strongly recommend making a reservation (ours was 6:30 on a Wednesday, nice and early and quiet). The shrimp cocktail appetizer was fresh, though there were only four shrimps. Our lobster rolls were delicious, as usual, as were the Old Bay fries (sigh). After our meals, we had a nightcap at the bar, and by then (8:30) the place was packed and noisy - but a fun atmosphere. For everyone who moaned about the noise & crowds, I suggest skipping lunch and dining early for a more relaxing experience (as is true for MOST popular NYC restaurants - whadaya expect???).

New England in the East Village. Loved the scenery, decent food... This quaint restaurant tricks you to thinking your in more of a New England fish house than the east village. Loved the suttle nuatical decor. Definitely recommend the grilled mussels..you won't even need the drawn butter. Had the skate wing with wild mushrooms for my entree but was completely emersed in oil. Lobster salad sandwich wasn't bad, but I would wait for the actual New England coast if your really in the mood for it.

Amazing food, great value!. Mermaid had some of the best food Ive had in a NYC restaurant. I had the grilled salmon with risotto and I literally licked my plate clean. Literally! It was incredible. I plan on returning again very soon. The music was also amazing, and even though it was a crowded Friday night, the servers were attentive and friendly. I strongly recommend this place!

Dining at it's best. This was my first time dining here and I loved it. I came here with my mother and we had a great time. We sat in the back which was a bit loud at times and could have had more light to view the menu. The calamari that we started off with was outstanding and the grilled salmon filet was delish. The service was superb I'll definately be coming back here.

Best Lobster Roll anywhere!!. I've eaten the lobster roll many times and I can't get enough of it!!! How can you go wrong with fresh cooked lobster and mayo on a brioche burger bun. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, and although the bar is sometimes crowded, which seems to slow service to the front, (it happened to be on a busy saturday night) i've found the staff knowledgeable and eager to please.
