A special place to learn and knit – I wanted to learn how to knit and luckily stumbled across Knitting 321. What initially drew me to this place were the private lessons that were offered instead of the classes offered by most knitting stores in NY. I often stayed after my lesson and was impressed by the loyal patrons who would come in, show their projects and stay and chat. I've been to other stores in the city and found that Knitting 321's owner, Valeria, inspires her knitters to make the most beautiful pieces. Valeria carries high quality yarn and she also has a fantastic sense of design and style. If you're interested in making something other than just scarves, and challenging your knitting skills, I urge you to take a visit to her store and see what people are making. She will work with you on sizing the pattern, selecting the yarn, etc. I love visiting.
great experience – I knew how to knit but had not done it since childhood. Two years ago, I went to Knitting 321 on the reommendations of another satisfied client. Well, multiple projects later, I cannot tell you how great the experience has been and continues! Valeria is able to design the most amazing creations and her finishing is impeccable! She is patient and responsive! I would more than highly recommend Knitting 321 and have sent other satisfied customers there!!! BRAVO
FABULOUS!! – One word says it all - FABULOUS! With Valeria's careful and patient guidance, brilliant design ability and color sense, I have created designer worthy garments! I am amazed at the gorgeous coats and sweaters that I have made. I could not have done it without Valeria. She really knows what her customers want and helps them create a beautiful finished product. Valeria is so accomodating. I am a relatively new knitter but am now addicted!! Thank you Valeria.
Amazing Knitting Store on the UES – I am so glad I stumbled upon Knitting 321 two years ago. I am also surprised by the negative reviews regarding the shop as I have found it to be a very special place, where Valeria (the owner) is very helpful, patient and honest.
Valeria is extremely knowledgable and is a fantastic teacher and designer. She gives private lessons in the mornings and is extremely patient with her students. I have become a much stronger knitter with her help and just finished an amazing cable knit sweater that she designed for me based upon a design we found online. In addition, she has a fantastic selection of premium yarns (no cheapo yarn here) and works with you to design your project. She is open 5 days a week (hours posted online and on the door) and has late hours on Tuesdays - which works out very well for me as I tend to work past 6pm most nights. Saturdays tend to be pretty busy and so, you might have to wait your turn to get Valeria's help (I went in recently with several questions on the sweater mentioned above and the store was very busy, she was more than happy to help and I understood I had to wait until the folks ahead of me were helped before she could turn her attention over to me). Whether you are an experienced or novice knitter, I suggest you check out Knitting 321!
Curb your attitude and enjoy knitting in 321 – I'm a beginner knitter. My friend, who is a great knitter recommended me to start with Valeria at Knitting 321. I have to tell you that Valeria turned out to be the most patient and attentive instructor. I'm not an easy learner and I feel thankful to her for all the attention she provides.
Its surprising to see such negative reviews from some people.
I witnessed few times when some people come in with:" YOU, DROP EVERYTHING, I'M HERE!" attitude regardless if there are other people waiting patiently for their turn. And if they are not helped immediately, storm out with nasty remarks. People like this is not a big loss even in this economy!
I love this place, its very soothing environment makes me feel welcome. Come and see for yourself !
Experience Knitting 321 – I've been knitting for a while. To me knitting is a warm, creative and fun experience with its challenges that come up with every new project regardless if you are a pro or not.
I have been looking for a place where these challenges could be handled in a warm, creative, professional, patient and understanding manor.
Also, I'm crazy about quality yarns, unique colors and textures that a lot of times inspire to create new beautiful projects.
A place that can relax me, where I can come, sit down and everyone gives me a smile, and in a short exchange make me feel like I know these fellow knitters. Knitting 321, became that place!
Valeria is the teacher anyone can wish for and few know about. She is very talented designer and who tries to inspire and challenge all levels of knitters! She has a great color sense and that is very helpful to most. She takes pride in her craftsmanship, she wouldn't hesitate to rip and start a new, with that encourage her pupil to see the beauty in her work and then the finished project. Its a pleasure to watch her pay attention to every little detail. Her care extends to the private lessons she offers to her customers that need additional instructions or just a beginners. She schedules lessons so the pupil has quiet time for learning one on one. She is always there to guide from the beginning of the project to the end and that makes me very comfortable also.
Even though one can't please the whole world but she is sure trying.
I believe that if you are like me, you would find Knitting 321 a unique place to experience knitting.
WAS A BEGININER...NOW A KNITTER – I first walked into 321 knitting in April. I had never held a knitting needle or held a ball of yarn. Valeria's one on one personalized lessons, not only taught me how to knit and perl, I even know how to cable. In four months, I have made a shawl, 2 scarfs and a hat and scarf set for my son. She has the patience of a saint as I have walked in with numerous questions and problems. What i love about knitting 321 is that Valeria looks at how you knit and finds tangible solutions for making it work. Last week a customer was dropping a stitch and wanted to learn how to fix it. Valeria realized if she taught her how to crotchet she would see how to fix the problem. It was amazing watching the customer find the solution she needed. I have read the negative reviews posted here and I can say, I am really surprised. I walk in the store all different times, and I have never seen a problem or an issue with helping anyone. In fact, when you have a personalized lesson with Valeria for an hour, she gives you more. When you walk in the store with a problem, she teaches you and gives you a solution. Her eye for design and color is amazing. I now consider myself a knitter and its because of Valeria.
A Knitting Gathering Place – I have been knitting with Knit 321 - Valeria for at least 5 years. Her knowledge, design, finishing is by far at this time the very best in the city. I started knitting when i ws 7 years of age. I have knitted from many places and there is no one who gives better instructions, measurements and design that have always been couture fit and look. The yarns both on hand and ordered have always been exceptional. Valeria's eye for color is exceptional as well. I also enjoy the gathering of the women there who knit, learn and have become friends. It is my comfort zone and her woking hours meet my needs Tuesday to Saturday she is always there. Not to mention when she is in earlier for private lessons. Understand the concept of knitting and you will find KNIT 321 a second home as well!!!!!
Fantastic & Fashionable Designs & Yarns – Having been around to several of the knitting boutiques in the city and found either poor choices of yarn or a cliquish crowd, I was so very pleased to find Knitting 321. The owner was previously a designer in the garment industry and has REAL TALENT. She can create custom-made patterns for exquisite, unique and very fashionable items as well as providing excellent guidance. The selection of yarns is gorgeous and there's a range of price points. The clientele are very friendly and helpful - even the "regulars" make you feel welcome. My experience has been purely pleasurable. If you are interested in quality yarns and want to benefit from someone who really knows what they are talking about - this is the place for you.
Stay away! I bought $100.00 worth of yarn in early August. As a beginner I asked the owner if she'd help me out with my baby blanket if I had a problem. She told me to come in any time and she'd be glad to help out. Well, I'm almost done and had a question about what to do with the "tails". I went in (called first to alert her) and she did not want to know me. She was impatient, told me she wouldn't show me how to sew in tails unless I took a lesson, and responded to all my questions with caustic sarcasm. She lost a potential customer. I understood her not being able to show me how to sew in tails without a lesson, but I couldn't put up with her sarcasm when I asked how to block organic yarn and received such an unpleasant answer. When I asked her if my hands were correctly positioned while knitting she actually bent my fingers to the point of discomfort. And this, in front of two other women in the shop. It's just mind boggling that this woman is still in business. I regret not reading these reviews before going there.I repeat-stay away.
