The Scene
This ruby-hued hideaway hosts a 30-something crowd of Lower East Side locals and uptown blind daters looking for an "offbeat" setting. Happily, the patrons at Belly are as well mixed as their cocktails. The rich red walls are offset by mod decorations that give the room a sensual, playful vibe; think Stanley Kubrick's vision of a rec room.
The Draw
A subtly swanky downtown spot where you can actually count on having a seat while you sip, Belly has perfected the art of the truly low-key lounge. Lush seating and tiny tables mean that both small groups and dates can stake a comfy claim here, especially if they arrive in time for happy hour. The friendly bartenders definitely know their wines, and are also happy to suggest specialty drinks such as the saketini, while dicing up nibbles--from savory sausage bites to Toblerone chocolate--to complement the cocktails.

I live in EV and like to go out in LES once in a while. Heard good things about Belly and wanted to check it out. My boyfriend and I were extremely disappointed, the music was wayyy to loud, drinks not worth the money, and the atmosphere looked like a bunch of B&T teenagers. We left after one drink. A lot of other people were doing the same thing. The turnover was very quick...very few people hanging around. So, that's the reason it's not crowded. We won't be going back!

I finally went to Belly last weekend (after hearing about it from a bunch of friends) and I can honestly say that this bar totally lives up to it's reputation. The bartenders are really friendly with zero attitude, the bar itself is totally funky and fun w/a great vibe and excellent music (the DJ was playing funk, indie rock, etc.) and the prices were well below what you normally pay elsewhere. It's just a great bar - best i've been to in a long time

I read the reviews and went last night. It's one step up from a dive but with a lot of red. Boxes of beer are stacked against the wall, likely a storage closet. The radiator was at full tilt when I was there. Many better places on Clinton.
