You get what you pay for: Terrible Customer Service

by ram201

I was finally pleased to find a pilates studio offering reformer pilates at a reasonable price. After my free introductory lession (which was fine) I signed up for a level 1 class. When the day of my class came I saw that I was the only person scheduled to attend and so I called up that morning and asked specifically what their policy was and if the class would be cancelled. The person on the phone said that it would proceed as scheduled and made no mention of their policy that I would have to pay double if no one else showed up. I trekked 10 blocks in the rain to attend this class only to be told I would have to pay another 30$ if I wanted to have a private session.

When I explained how I specifically called this morning to find out about their policy I was met with a snooty attitude from the instructor and little in the way of apologies. Additionally, I learned that it is their policy that if you are the only one in the class you MUST show up and then if no one else shows up you have the option to take the class for double or leave. This is a terrible system.

I also left a message for the manager of the studio, Anne, to call and I am yet to hear from her.

All around terrible experience and I will not be back.

  • Pros: Price
  • Cons: Small space, rude staff, terrible customer service

Best value for your money

This studio is a great value for the money. The web scheduler is convenient and allows you to see how many people are signed up for a specific class, thereby bypassing the negative experience of a previous poster concerning the 2-person minimum for holding a class. There are many rules here, but the great instructors, clean environment, nice equipment, and unbeatable price outweighs those considerations

  • Pros: Lowest price I've seen, long hours, many classes to choose from
  • Cons: Rules and regulations

Got to Business, a good thing for paying by the hour

by travelgal2go

I went in with passbook for an introductory class then a level 1 trial class. It was my first experience with pilates and having coordiation found instruction easy. The facility is clean and ventilated. I was one of 4 people. The female instructor, an owner noticed small details for correction and was not ample to chit chat or allow it in class which is fine by me. For convience of location it was great.

PS- I will be rating other yoga studios in Manhattan so check my other reviews for comparison

  • Pros: good east side location, clean and ventilated, business minded
  • Cons: business minded, no shower or dressing room

Beware: awful, degrading, humilating service

by ntp

I went for the first time with a "trial" coupon. I was the only person at the class. Prior to the class, I was not told about any rules regarding what happens if only one person signed up for the class and ended up paying twice as much for one class. The manager said at one point, they would reimburse me due to the misunderstanding, but then an hour later, called me to tell me that the owner refused to reimburse me.

When I spoke with the owner, she yelled at me and told me that she was not in the business of giving out free classes just because there was obviously a miscommunication between myself and the staff members. She put me on speakerphone so "everyone" could hear what I had to say. After I said my peace, she picked up and said she understood that perhaps her staff should have explained things better but that she had already paid the instructor and my money went to paying for her. The owner had the gall to say that the money I paid "should be used to pay for the rent and other bills".

Rather than trying to appease my dissatisfaction and the error on her staff's part, she said that she didn't care if I didn't refer her studio to others because she knows that she has the best prices in town and people would sign up for her classes because of that. then she essentially hung up on me.

As great as the deal of $25 may be, definitely not worth the humiliation and bad treatment I received. I've been taking pilates for over 5 years now. YOU CAN DO BETTER. STAY AWAY! Also, 1) they charged me a surcharge that they were not suppose to charge. and 2) it's clear that while perhaps the instructors are good, the studio doesn't care about the clients or even the instructors but rather only making money.

  • Cons: Cramped rooms. Dangerous where the machines were only about a feet apart from other.

Excellent Pilates Classes at Very Reasonable Rates

by duranie70

I love the classes here, once you start seeing results, it is addictive. This location is very nice, machines are new, the web scheduler is a fantastic and convenient feature. You can make sure days in advance that you are signed up for a class with your favorite instructor before it fills up.

They give alot of individual attention in a class setting. This studio gets my vote.
