“Trendy little spot, cool ambiance, good if it's not crowded - else kind of cramped.”
“the place has a full bar and the staff is very cool”
“Very small selection of drinks (they didn't even have diet sodas to mix), and a cash-only bar, but the atmosphere and music are wonderful.”
“Dress was casual to nice, a great place to just hang out.”
“The doorman, very full of himself, in addition to refusing to return the $10 cover fee each, insulted us.”
“Bartenders are not always perfect or attentive, to out it mildly, but hopefully at that point you are already having a good time and don't care.”
A cozy little music lounge with no attitude and no posers.
The Scene
There's a secret after-hours feel to this Alphabet City hangout, where the entrance is marked only by a small blue light over the door. The artsy, eclectic crowd is refreshingly free of pretense. Keyboards, turntables, and hanging jazz, rock and Latin record albums decorate the bar area, while lush trees rustle above the tiled tables and floor cushions in the tiny garden. Springy black-and-red stools and holographic outer-space prints add to the funkiness.
The Draw
Nublu isn't just the name of the bar--it's also the name of owner Ilhan Ersahin's record label. You'll often find him jamming here with his bands Wax Poetic and Lovetrio. Many of the DJs are also his friends, so there's an informal vibe that, coupled with the smooth electronic and world music, oozes mellowness. The cash-only bar serves up beer, wine and an occasional glass of champagne.
I want my $10 back!. The music, the patrons, the service, and the drinks were just horrible. And it was so dirty, I didn't even want to sit down.
Love it!. Nublu has excellent music, good crowd, great ambiance. Bartenders are not always perfect or attentive, to out it mildly, but hopefully at that point you are already having a good time and don't care. It can get crowded and busy but not unpleasant. Overall, I love this place.
A little Gem!. Went to Nublu last night (Thursday)......it was AWESOME! Although its a divey establishment it was almost like being at a house party in a funky pad! Nublu is a gem! Good crowd and Fab music indeed! The drinks were fairly strong and reasonably priced but the barmaid had an attitude! But, that was her problem, not mine, I was too busy having a good time to care. Other than that I really don't have a bad thing to say about this place. I think my girlfriends and I have found a new hang out.
weekdays. This place is pretty much a ripoff on weekdays....who charges 10 bucks on a wed night for something that is supposedly tucked away from the mainstream? Doorman/bartender attitude...would rather go to the mainstrip than a place that's out of the way and trying to sell something it's clearly not.
major attitud. went to nublu last wednesday, great forro music, dj, dancing - the only exception is the major attitude coming from behind the bar, the chick with glasses needs a chill pill asap. needs more AC or just plain air, crowdy
The doorman is evil. I stopped by Nublu with a couple of friends on a Friday night and will never return. We stood at the bar for 15 minutes and couldn't get any service, so we decided to leave. The doorman, very full of himself, in addition to refusing to return the $10 cover fee each, insulted us. I would like to communicate this to the owner/ manager, but, unfortunately, there is no contact info on Nublu's website and, as I wrote, I am not going back.
AMAZING !!.
