Ava Penthouse Lounge

A Retro-Modern Rooftop bar; sipping cocktails never felt so luxurious

  • Corporate & Private Events
  • Signature Cocktails-DJ-Dancing
  • Outdoor seating- Rooftop bar

Located atop the historic Dream Hotel, 210 West 55th St., the lounge is 2,500 square ft. of retro-modern luxury, part Riviera with inflections of South Beach, designed by one of New York?s newest innovative designers, Jody Singleton. Named one of the top 10 lounges in the country, Ava continues to shine as the most stylish outdoor rooftop space in NYC transporting you back to a bygone era of absolute glamor. French-style wrought iron benches, ebony lattice teak seating, comfy throw pillows & soft lighting create a cozy garden feel. Service is unpretentious with a downtown atmosphere, panoramic views of Hudson River Sunsets and illuminating nightfalls over-looking Times Square. Ava Lounge made its mark on the nightlife scene in years past, and repeatedly hails as a hot spot to relax, party, and sip on signature cocktails; the "Summer Wind" or a flavored Mojito to start or end an evening.

Editorial Review for Ava Penthouse Lounge – by Lisa Marie Rovito

The Scene
Most people impulsively race for the windows at this retro-licious duplex lounge atop the Dream Hotel. A view to the south overlooks the "Late Show" studios and across the way, high-rise terraces swaying with singles who party this way every night. A stylin' DJ-spun scene that could easily become pretentious--with a roped-off sidewalk and "Reserved" signs on tables--is actually warm and inviting, with low striped banquettes and modern wood paneling. Giggling tourists bring an out-of-town sweetness, while tough guys in suits will help you score a seat.

The Draw
When the weather is fine, the upstairs terrace lounge outshines any option in the area. It's tented for use year-round, but the "heat" feels lukewarm at best. In winter months, opt for the sexy little library-themed downstairs back room, with a mod white scheme and a those-in-the-know feel about it.

This was my first time at Ava Lounge and after the way that we were treated, it will certainly not be my last. The staff was amazing, kind, and helpful. We had reserved seating on the rooftop for Saturday night. We were whisked upstairs through the line and onto this fantastic roof deck. Our waitress Christina couldnt have been a sweeter nicer girl. We had such an amazing time!! The views are fantastic and we really felt very S*x and the City ish (there were 4 of us!) Everything just worked out 100% perfect. The crowd was good and well dressed. It was definitely a perfect upscale evening.

Pros: Great views, great bar, GREAT staff

Went here for a friend's birthday on Saturday night, 6/14 and while we were all impressed with the views, we were not impressed by the rude bouncers and their nasty attitudes. Despite having table service, we had to wait in the back of the line. Once getting to the top, where the lounge is located, we were shown in and had to literally swim our way through to find our little table in the back that could seat maybe 4 people if lucky. The space around the tables is small so if you bring your friends, just plan on dancing up against them. I think it happened to be very crowded on the Sat. that we were there because it had rained very hard during the day and the rooftop was closed. Adding to the misery was the fact that the air condition was broken and the poor men in their long sleaved shirts were sweating most of the night. One plus - the music was great and it would have been more enjoyable if there was actually room to dance and air to breath! The main reason I wouldn't recommend this place is the service, starting with the bouncers and ending with the waitresses. Bouncers were ridiculous - red velvet rope, ect. and major attitude and the waitress once bringing us our table and vodka did not check up on us once to see if we needed more mixers - we had to hunt her down. Impressed? Hardly and I don't think any of us will return back.

Pros: Good Music

Cons: Everything but the good music - HORRIBLE service & attitude
