Editorial Review for Dip – by Julie Mehta
The Scene
There's a trendy air to this Murray Hill lounge's main level, jammed with high tables, a small curved bar and stylish young professionals. Head upstairs for a swankier, more laid-back vibe, with comfy burgundy leather couches, mirrors, quirky paintings and candles set into wall alcoves. Unfortunately, a giant wall TV over the entrance mars the mood.
The Food
Vegetarians will find plenty of options, such as the hearty wheat-tortilla quesadillas and soy sauce-sweet veggie skewers. The requisite spinach-artichoke and hummus dips are tasty and ample, but the pastas are rather generic. As for the fondue, the gruyere has a sharp but smooth taste, although the uncut cauliflower and broccoli florets fall easily into the bubbly mix. Chocolate fondue comes with your choice of free toppings, including raspberry sauce and marshmallow fluff. For a somewhat lighter finish, opt for the Chocolate Mint Ice Cream cocktail, a blend of milk, creme de menthe, and creme de cacao.

This place is a restaurant, not a bar or dance club. The bar itself is tiny. There are only tables for those eating dinner. Why then, is the club rap/techno music splitting your eardrums so that you can't even hear the person sitting right next to you? The bump -n- grind music vibrates the tables it is do loud. The lights were down so low that I stuck my skewered shrimp into someone's beer instead of the melted Velveeta they call cheese dip. The food for dipping is ice cold, the chocolate watery and just gross all around. This restaurant trying way too hard to be a hip, happy-hour club-joint should be avoided. I will not return there, I know for sure.
Pros: None
Cons: Thuderously loud music, bad food, silly "wanna be" atmosphere

This was the worst meal I've ever had in NYC. It's a fondue joint, so yes, the cheese was good, but the grilled cheese was obvi microwaved. The bread was chewy and rubbery. Soggy ceasar salad on mixed greens? Run out of Romaine did you? But the SERVICE WAS REVOLTING. I'm embarrassed for whoever hired their hostess. First she seats us, then asks if we can move our table bc she promised this one to someone else. For our trouble she will pick up the first round of drinks. We were 8 people, but at the time this "deal" was made only 2 were at the table. Moves us upstairs where we are the only people up there. Since the only thing this place has going for it is the atmosphere, now we were in the negative. Bill comes and there is ONE drink comped bc the others were not at the table to order. ONE drink between 8 people does not compensate for anything!! Why are ALL the bad comments on here about the service?? Her answer "Then why did you even bother coming?" Really? Nice. Learned my lesson there, Missy. Hope your closed by Fall.
