“The wines from their own label are great.”

“The menu was extensive and very interesting.”
“Definitely great to share, since their portions are nice, and a solid Italian restaurant that is great for larger parties.”
“Everybody was happy with their food, and on our way out we met other parties who were return customers and loved the place.”
“The manager's attitude toward our poor service was shocking for a restaurant in this price range.”
“If you are looking for great Traditional Italian dishes look no further - it's not the cheapest but it's honestly worth every penny !”
“Only problem was the service was a bit slow for lunch.”
average.
Celebrated a friend's birthday, the staff was very accomodating because we had people who were unable to make dinner but came out for the afterparty.
Food was great, service was terrific, and the place got packed as the evening went along. Definitely great to share, since their portions are nice, and a solid Italian restaurant that is great for larger parties.
GREAT SERVICE,AMAZING HOME MADE PASTA.
My party for six last saturday night had the prefect visit at CASCINA. First of all, everybody was so nice. We arrived 20 minutes earlier than our reservation time and they kindly made room for us in ten minutes. Even though the place was jam packed, the server took his time with us, explainging what the specials of the day came with and how the prix fixe menu would save us money. He also helped us select a wine which was delicious,a Pinot noir from the north of Italy. I ordered an extra portion of Tiramasu to bring home to my husband just because it was the best I've ever tasted. I will surely be back at CASCINA. I couldn't imagine them ever having an off night unless maybe the chef was absent. Everybody was happy with their food, and on our way out we met other parties who were return customers and loved the place.
good job cascina
Great neighborhood Italian place!.
We were back in NYC for our annual trip, just arrived Saturday night. We settled in at our hotel and then began the deliberation process of where to eat as we were both famished. The light bulb went off, and we remembered the place we'd tried the previous year that we'd really enjoyed. The problem was, we couldn't remember the name. However, we did have a general idea of where it was located. So, we bundled into our many, many layers and trekked out to conquer the streets in search of grub.
We got lucky and found it on the first try, back over on 9th. We entered to the incredible scent of a wood-burning oven, and asked if there were any seats available as we didn't have a reservation. Initially our hostess looked chagrined, but then made room for us on the first-floor next to a cute couple who were obviously on a first date ("So, what to do you like to do in your spare time? Any hobbies or skeletons in the closet that I should know about?" nervous twitter). I recalled the Montepulciano by the glass from the previous year and ordered that to start. I was drawn immediately to the pasta Bolognese as that is one of my favorites, until I saw that veal Saltimbocca was a special for the evening. My veal was melt-in-your-mouth amazing; I could have eaten it every day for the next week. My beau ordered the salmon on special and that, too, was amazing - rich and buttery and perfectly cooked. Sated, we left but not before I grabbed a business card to ensure that we never forgot the name of our lovely restaurant again!
We ended up back at Cascina the following Thursday, this time having booked a reservation through Open Table in advance. I again eyeballed the pasta Bolognese but went for the veal instead, this time is was veal Scallopine with lemon. We enjoyed this meal just as much as the previous one, and if we lived in the city I am sure we'd visit at least once a week. Ah well, we can dream of next year....
truly italian.
i moved to nyc three months ago from northern california and stumbled onto CASCINA RESTAURANT my first night in town...there's nothing like good italian comfort food, which in addition to the friendly staff and fun-loving crowd keeps me coming back - sometimes a couple of times a week. i usually pull up a seat at the bar, where i'm greeted and treated like an old friend - what a refreshing treat in this big city. the food is consistently delicous and the kitchen is always accommodating when i ask for something special (not on the menu)
. i bring my family and friends here and i can't tell you how many times i've heard, "next time i'm in town, let's go back to CASCINA. we had so much fun there." definitely make this a group dinner, especially if you're celebrating a fun occassion like a birthday. the portions are generous and you'll definitely want to sample a bit of everything...it's the perfect place to enjoy your meal italian style. still, i love the place even when i'm all alone and often stop in for a plate of pasta orechiete with sausages and broccoli, a glass of wine and i almost always get a fresh tiramisu to go - i'm hooked! Enjoy and I'll see you there!
WARM PLACE,GREAT FOOD.
Cascina Restaurant has everything I think is important in a restaurant. The staff makes me feel special, like they know me, and they are friendly and professional. The food is great, it tastes fresh and Home-Made. The service is very efficient. They have small tables and big tables, I once walked in without a reservation and within five minutes they had a table for me and 11 co-workers!!! The wine list is amazing.
It is a place I like bringing friends and family too...I am lucky to have this special place in my neighborhood.
A REALLY ITALIAN EXPERIENCE.
I don't usually do these, but recently I went to CASCINA RISTORANTE for dinner and had such a nice time that I wanted to share it. I was most struck by the friendliness of the staff. I was greeted at the door and at the table with genuine enthusiasim. Our server was funny and knowledgeable, he consistendly checked on us and was helpful both with our questions about the menu and for suggestions of places to go after dinner.
The food was great as well, fresh pasta like I've never had any where else and a great homemade tiramisu'.
Basically I can't wait to go back so I can try everything else on the menu.
the best in midtown west.
Went here with a large group of friends. We had a few bottlles of wine from the extensive wine list, all of which were excellent choices recommended by the manager.
The service in general was quite attentive without being bothersome. As far as the food, everyone was happy with their dishes. Everything was fresh served in a timely manner.
This was a great experience!
Restaurant Motto: If you are not happy, too bad we don't need you!. We went to this restaurant at the recommendation of our conceirge. It was a good thing they gave us the Open Table confirmation, as the restaurant did not have it in their system. It didn't look like it would make a difference as the restaurant was only 1/2 full (8:00 on a Saturday - should have been a clue!). They placed our party of 7 on the top floor. We were the only table occupying that room the entire time we were there. The service was horrendous. Once we got the food, which was mediocre at best, we never saw our waiter again. After we ate the meal we sat for 15 minutes with empty plates in front of us. Four bus boys stood 10 feet away the entire time and avoided our stares. When I asked to speak to the manager, they suddenly scurried to clean the table. The manager's attitude toward our poor service was shocking for a restaurant in this price range. His response to me was "Well, 90% of our customers are happy." Not surprising, they were attempting to add a 20% gratuity to my party of seven. To me the food was not worth taking the chance of a very poor dining experience. Not to mention, the poor attitude the management had on the restaurant customers.
Tasty pizza. I've stumbled upon this restaurant coming back from a meeting in the area. I was running late, so my friend and I decided to stay in the area for dinner. Walking down the street we looked in and saw and big centrally placed stone pizza oven. Well that was a good clue. The pizza was delicious. The crust was thin and crisp, the kind that stay straight when you pick it up... the tomato sauce was delicious and the fresh mozzarella just great. Fresh basil just gave it the finishing touch and a great aroma. It is worth to make a trip just for the pizza. I'm definitely coming back.
Great thin crust pizza and lasagna. I read many of the reviews on this restaurant, and the bad ones scared me, but we took the leap and hoped for the best. We had a birthday dinner for 17 and this was one of the few places that could accommodate us (uh oh). I'm sure there are better, and I've been to a few, but there is absolutely nothing to avoid here. The food was sensational, the decor was lovely and the service was really great. If you need top tier ambience, a super fashionable address, or a too-cool crowd, go somewhere else. For everything else, you will like if not love this restaurant.
