The Scene – White sails pulled taut overhead, honey-colored wood plank floors, a marble bar--it feels like dining aboard a beautifully restored sailboat. The lighting is flattering, the crowd somewhat serious and service generally attentive and well-meaning. – – The Food – If the decor isn't hint enough, the fresh fish packed in ice just to the left of the bar will erase any uncertainty: Seafood is the house specialty, and it's reliably fresh. Start off with feta-stuffed grilled calamari, tender, subtly sweet veal dolmas or rare scallops wrapped in shredded phyllo…

Great overall Experience!! Thank You!!

by mixalis

I had heard such great such great things about Thalassa, that I was so looking forward to my visit. We went a couple weeks ago before attending a show and we had the best time. We were seated right away and our waiter was very attentive and considerate to the fact that we had to get out of there on time. I ordered the scallop which was amazing, ordered a whole fish Lavraki (sea bass i think?!) melted in my mouth, had some delicious greek wine that they reccomended. The dining room is absolutely beautiful and it was one of the first warm nights we were getting in New York! Overall the service was great, the hostesses and waiters were all very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely come back a few times this summer and would love to try more of the menu...

  • Pros: amazing whole fish
  • Cons: Improve the music

Go Fishing at Thalassa - Pick your Fish

by Bella10000

From the moment we walked into this Great "Hidden" in the middle of the block in tribeca restaurant we love this place. The waiter encouraged us to Select our dinner & apps from the Fish display - full of Fresher than Fresh Seafood - Shrimp the size of a lobster, Langustinos, Oysters - Lobsters - Amazing Fish from Greece etc.. we had a Lethrini which was very tasty and cooked perfectly, The wine we drank was an awesome Burgundy & fairly priced as we noticed. The service was very attenative & Not over attentavive which could be annoying at other places - At Thalassa we did not get interupted we simply enjoyed our meal & will be back soon.

The decor is very cool & tribeca like with great curtains flowing thru out the space & the bathrooms are spectacular & so clean & have Tocca candles that smell so incredible.

They deffinately pay attention to all the details.

Worst service I have ever experienced

by Jimmcf

Went to Thalassa last night for my birthday; I have to say it was the worst service I have ever experienced. Upon arrival, the bar was deserted with no bartender in sight. It was a good 5+ minutes before one appeared. We ordered a manhattan straight up and a cosmopolitan while waiting for our third person; the bartender could not find the vermouth for the manhattan and was not sure what was in the cosmopolitan.

Once we were seated at our table, it was another 10+ minutes before a waiter came over with the menus. We then ordered another round of drinks. After a good 20 minutes, he came back with a cosmopolitan (but not the manhattan), and instead of using vodka, it was made with whiskey. The waiter never came back, but the bartender came over after 10+ minutes to see if the drink was ok; we then told him the problem with it and returned it (maybe he saw we were not drinking it, or realized he made it incorrectly). When they came back with this new round of drinks, instead of a manhattan straight up, we were given whiskey on the rocks. And instead of a cosmpolitan, it was cointreau and cranberry straight up (no vodka or lime juice).

I do have to say the food was very tasty (but not incredible). The restaurant was not busy at all, but we left there feeling very ignored - from not bothering to make the drinks right, to not coming over to the table much at all to check on us (we were getting ready to leave when they brought the menus over); we were never asked how the food was. You can get better service at McDonalds.

  • Pros: Seafood was good
  • Cons: Service was inept
