It's expensive and immense -- almost to the point of being intimidating. But the adventurous Greek food at this Tribeca restaurant makes it worth overcoming one's wariness.
Thalassa is the best Greek restaurant. Get the octopus, it's the best in town!
Horrible experience. I would like to give no stars at all to this restaurant. The food was just ok and shellfish was dry and to salty. I had purchased a gift receipt and was told I could not use it, even though I purchased dinner for four people and several bottles of wine! This restaurant is dishonest and recommend you save the trip and your money!
Outstanding food and service. I recently attended a birthday party at Thalassa in the Wine Room. It was one of the best dining experiences of my life. The food was outstanding, the service was impeccable and the atomsphere was absolutely charming. I know where I will be spending my birthday this year!!!
Water water everywhere and a whole lot to drink. Aside from the attentive staff, cool digs & great location, the seafood is killer. But one can't eat fresh seafood & great Lamb without a good bottle of wine to go along. And their wide variety of greek wines makes for an excellent pairing whether it's red for the Lamb or White for the Fish. You really can't go wrong here.
Great birthday dinner spot!.
I recently planned a 50th birthday dinner for my mother and her girlfriends at Thalassa and everyone had a fabulous time!
My mother is from Athens and is very picky about greek cuisine and she agreed the food was exceptional. I especially recommend the baccala and kataifi (shredded wheat)-wrapped scallop appetizers. Overall, the seafood tasted very fresh and everything was beautifully plated. We liked the sommelier's wine recommendations (greek syrah, chardonnay, and sparkling wine). The service was very attentive- any time I looked up at the maitre d', he came over within seconds. Last but not least, the decor and ambiance is cool, clean, and airy. They pay attention to detail, as even the bathrooms were stocked with yummy-scented olive oil/fig soap and tocca lotion. My only suggestion to the restaurant would be to turn up the music a little, as it was very quiet where we were seated.
The special events manager worked with me to arrange a prix fixe menu for my event and all the ladies had a great time...I recommend this place for a party, rehearsal dinner, etc. as well as a quiet dinner. Can't wait to return with my husband!
Great overall Experience!! Thank You!!. I had heard such great such great things about Thalassa, that I was so looking forward to my visit. We went a couple weeks ago before attending a show and we had the best time. We were seated right away and our waiter was very attentive and considerate to the fact that we had to get out of there on time. I ordered the scallop which was amazing, ordered a whole fish Lavraki (sea bass i think?!) melted in my mouth, had some delicious greek wine that they reccomended. The dining room is absolutely beautiful and it was one of the first warm nights we were getting in New York! Overall the service was great, the hostesses and waiters were all very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely come back a few times this summer and would love to try more of the menu...
Go Fishing at Thalassa - Pick your Fish.
From the moment we walked into this Great "Hidden" in the middle of the block in tribeca restaurant we love this place. The waiter encouraged us to Select our dinner & apps from the Fish display - full of Fresher than Fresh Seafood - Shrimp the size of a lobster, Langustinos, Oysters - Lobsters - Amazing Fish from Greece etc.. we had a Lethrini which was very tasty and cooked perfectly, The wine we drank was an awesome Burgundy & fairly priced as we noticed. The service was very attenative & Not over attentavive which could be annoying at other places - At Thalassa we did not get interupted we simply enjoyed our meal & will be back soon.
The decor is very cool & tribeca like with great curtains flowing thru out the space & the bathrooms are spectacular & so clean & have Tocca candles that smell so incredible.
They deffinately pay attention to all the details.
Worst service I have ever experienced.
Went to Thalassa last night for my birthday; I have to say it was the worst service I have ever experienced. Upon arrival, the bar was deserted with no bartender in sight. It was a good 5+ minutes before one appeared. We ordered a manhattan straight up and a cosmopolitan while waiting for our third person; the bartender could not find the vermouth for the manhattan and was not sure what was in the cosmopolitan.
Once we were seated at our table, it was another 10+ minutes before a waiter came over with the menus. We then ordered another round of drinks. After a good 20 minutes, he came back with a cosmopolitan (but not the manhattan), and instead of using vodka, it was made with whiskey. The waiter never came back, but the bartender came over after 10+ minutes to see if the drink was ok; we then told him the problem with it and returned it (maybe he saw we were not drinking it, or realized he made it incorrectly). When they came back with this new round of drinks, instead of a manhattan straight up, we were given whiskey on the rocks. And instead of a cosmpolitan, it was cointreau and cranberry straight up (no vodka or lime juice).
I do have to say the food was very tasty (but not incredible). The restaurant was not busy at all, but we left there feeling very ignored - from not bothering to make the drinks right, to not coming over to the table much at all to check on us (we were getting ready to leave when they brought the menus over); we were never asked how the food was. You can get better service at McDonalds.
We regret to hear of your unpleasant experience. On the rare occasion that a service issue arises, our Maitre D' is always on the premises to correct it immediately thus enabling all of our diners to enjoy a fulfilling experience at Thalassa. We would sincerely appreciate if you would contact our General Manager who will be happy to rectify the situation.
EXCELLENT!!. My wife and I went to Thalassa recently and had a wonderful time. Delicious seafood dishes were prepared perfectly. They had a very nice wine list and the service was excellent. I also must mention that the ambiance was very nice making for a great night out with my wife. Highly Recommended!
Never again!. I went there last wednesday with couple of friends and we were all disapointed. İt took the waiter 20 minutes to get our orders although it wasn't too busy the food was OK but overpriced.
