Editorial Review for Switzer Falls in Angeles National Forest – by Michele McCole Moss
In Short
On weekends, the entrance is inevitably packed with families picnicking and wading in the Arroyo Seco Creek. Hike just one mile downstream and reward yourself with waterfalls, wildflowers and quiet. At the fork in the road, head left down Bear Canyon Trail, which skims the canyon wall and then heads back down to the stream. Once at the bottom, hike 100 yards upstream to discover a gorgeous waterfall emptying into a natural swimming hole surrounded by sheer rock walls.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoThere's a $5 vehicle fee, but you can buy an annual California Parks Adventure Pass at Sport Chalet for $30.
ParkingLook for several parking lots as you drive to the picnic area. Bottom lots fill up fast on weekends; avoid a hike from the highway by getting there early.
The ExtrasOn weekdays, you're all but guaranteed to have the swimming hole to yourself. You may only pass a handful of hikers the entire day.
