The Scene – The pristine, peaceful, well-designed room, decorated with plenty of blond wood, serves as a dignified backdrop for the healthful food. An open kitchen runs the length of the room, allowing a view of the busy cooks. The front area features a cozy juice-bar counter. Service is casual, well-informed and very friendly. – – The Food – Gobo's food is completely vegan, though not organic. The rich flavors and textures, accentuated by well-crafted sauces and a variety of flavor-enhancing cooking techniques, should satisfy most palates. A dish of chewy smoked…
Amazing food, disappointing service
by NYCFan
As a regular visitor to New York from Scotland, we always make time for a visit to Gobo as the food is brilliant. Was disappointed during our recent visit at the end of August as the waitress was not even monosyllabic, she did not actually speak at all other than to take our order.
Whilst the food was great as usual (we thanked the chefs), her attitude and lack of manners did spoil our visit. More customer training is needed as there is plenty of competition out there for fantastic food experiences.
- Pros: Delicious choices for all courses
- Cons: Staff attitude
Best Vegetarian Restaurant!‎
by veggiecutie
As a vegetarian chef, I feel I can give a fair opinion on the fare at Gobo. Hands down the best meal I've ever had. Period. A little pricey, but well worth the splurge. Enjoy!
- Pros: Delicious food, great decor, fun service
- Cons: Packed! Long lines...
Very good vegetarian food, but beware of hidden charges.

Last night I had a delicious dinner at Gobo in the Village. The food was tasty and creative. We tried Vietnamese spring rolls, pan seared spinach dumplings, scallion pancakes, slow-cooked Malaysian curry, and eggplant stuffed with herbed tofu cheese. Although these choices are somewhat typical, all dishes were prepared very well. The pleasant ambience of the restaurant contributed to an enjoyable meal, except for a very loud couple who was sitting next to us. Because the tables were placed just a few inches apart, it was hard to hear my companion over the high volume conversation going on at the neighboring table. ? And then came a bill with two surprises. Apparently, the restaurant charges $3 for a side order of rice. We weren?t asked if we want rice with our dishes or not, it was just placed on the table. Also, the multi-layered chocolate cake was served with a scoop of ice cream, which we figured was a nice touch. However, that nice touch came at a price of an extra $1. Surprise! I recommend this restaurant for the quality of food and friendly staff, but beware of extra charges.
- Pros: very good vegetaria food, friendly staff, pleasant ambience
- Cons: hidden charges
