“The staff was very pleasant and professional and acommodated to all of our needs, i would also have to agree that the room service was quite pricey, but the hotel is located near the heart of NY!”
Great Hotel - family friendly!. We really enjoyed this hotel. We got there mid-morning and were able to check in!!! We had anticipated having to put our luggage into a storage and walk around until 3, but they were so kind to let us check-in and gave us a bag and a tin full of fresh cookies. They also were so kind as to let us keep one of our rooms until 2:30 on our check-out day, which was just GREAT. No extra charge, no hassle - very very nice hotel staff. The rooms were very reasonable priced for New York. The cafe directly attached to the hotel was wonderful for breakfast. The hotel is in great walking distance to many of the places we wanted to go see in New York. The rooms were much more spacious than what we anticpated for New york. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Last Choice. Hotel staff was friendly. Location was within walk to many key places (MOMA, Rockefeller Ctr, Radio City, Times Square and the subway system). Rooms don't look as good as the pics on web. Sheets and bed were fine but bathroom tiny. Room so small a person couldn't walk between the end of the bed and the desk chair. No coffee pot in room and air was so dry I almost went out to find a place that sold bottled water at 2 a.m. Didn't sleep well. No visable place to have breakfast that I saw. Had to go down the street. Shower dripped all night strategically and drenched the floor mat and the floor. Front lobby packed with people sitting at laptops felt overcrowded and unwelcoming . All in all was overpriced for the experience but was clean.
SMALL....
Stayed here for a birthday weekend with my husband, location was great, rooms were EXTREMELY small. I requested an upgrage to a King Deluxe, versus a King.
That only meant a higher floor according to the staff, whom might I add was extremely courteous. All in all, It was over priced for the lack of space, outdated decor and zero amenities. Wouldn't stay here again.
decent hotel, but overpriced. My boyfriend and I only stayed here because he got a deal for $110 a night for 2 people. Normally this hotel's rates range from $200-400/night. If you're willing to spend that much, I would go to the Carlton on Madison Ave.
Big disappointment...
I've stayed at Hiltons and a Doubletree. I loved them, so naturally I assumed that this one would be just as good (esp. since it was over $200/night). I was WRONG!
I was immediately disappointed when I walked in and saw the very outdated decor. The couches not only looked from the 70s, but also like they haven't been washed since then. The whole place had a gross soapy smell.
We arrived early and checked our bags with the bellhop. We had to pay $1 to put them in and another $1 to take them out! I would never expect this from a hotel, esp. one I'm paying this much for. And they didn't even get our bags for us. We had to go in and get them ourselves!
The room was clean, but also in need of a renovation. The wallpaper was peeling and our pillow cases had holes/rips in them. Again, not what I expect from a Hilton hotel.
I will NOT stay here again. However, if you don't need all the glamour and style in your Manhatten hotel, then this will probably be an acceptable choice for you.
Bait and Switch! I Won't Be Back!.
Stayed there once before and it was a full service hotel. It was nothing fancy, but it did provide all the general services that define "hotel." I pre-purchased several nights this trip only to learn well after arriving that the hotel no longer offers such basic services as room service (except at night) and the restaurant is rarely open. You can't even get a cup of coffee sent to your room in the morning, yet they charge the same as a full-service Midtown hotel!
When I complained, the general manager never returned my call. When I called again, the manager on duty told me with great sarcasm that "life is full of disappointments."
There are many, many options for better NY hotels at this price range. I will not be back.
great find for a reasonable price. My Wife and I came to visit New york before we moved here to finalize our decision. We had a great stay at the hotel! The staff was very pleasant and professional and acommodated to all of our needs, i would also have to agree that the room service was quite pricey, but the hotel is located near the heart of NY!! everything is close by, with great restaurants and attractions, that your day doesnt have to be wasted away in the hotel. Coming back from walking around all day, my wife and I found the beds to be very comfortable!! This hotel def influenced our decision to move here!
Great central location, good value!.
My husband and I stayed here last weekend for a getaway to the city. We were on a plane all night, and were very tired when we arrived at the hotel at 8:30 am. Almost certain we were going to be told to check our bags and return later, we were delighted to hear that our room was ready! They gave us some warm cookies, wished us a good rest and suggested we talk with the concierge if we were wondering what to do in town. The beds were very comfortable, and the room was nice but small. (What do you expect in NYC?) The toiletries were nice and the room was very clean. The hotel is only a 6 dollar cab fare from Fifth Avenue. We highly recommend it!
Tip: Visit Cafe Metro right next door to the hotel. The food is delicious and a lot cheaper than room service. Great to eat there, and great breakfast to go!
Stay here if you like mildewy bathrooms with crusty ceilings!. When returning to NYC for business recently, 9 of my colleagues and I booked rooms at the Metropolitan Doubletree for a night. I expected full business class accommodations but found nothing of the kind: though advertised, there was no access to internet in the room; stained bedskirts; stained carpets; and worst of all--poorly maintained and tiny bathrooms. Two of us had bathrooms where the ceiling was falling down due to water damage from the floor above and the shower curtain and tiles had mildew on them. The rest of the group agreed that the value for the money was very poor. This was definitely not what I expect at any price, nevermind top dollar. The hotel's response to our complaints was to offer an upgrade next time--no way! There won't be a next time.
Luxury beds and deluxe amenities help business folks and families sleep well at this comfortable mid-level chain..
In Short
Warm chocolate chip cookies greet every guest at this Hilton-owned hotel, a friendly touch that fits in with the hotel's business-casual attitude. Another way Doubletree helps its guests relax is the Sweet Dreams bed, which features a pillow-top mattress, high thread-count linens, down comforters and lots of jumbo pillows. Amenities also include high-speed Internet access, in-room coffeemaker and complimentary newspaper; properties also typically feature a swimming pool, a fitness center and a range of meeting facilities.
