DoubleTree Metropolitan Hotel

Luxury Hotel With a Convenient Midtown Location

  • Central, Midtown Location
  • American Buffet Breakfast
  • Continental Breakfast

Located in the heart of Manhattan, The Metropolitan Hotel is just a short ride from all three major metropolitan area airports as well as Grand Central Station. Unveiled in 1961 in front of a crowd that included Judy Garland and Noel Coward, the Metropolitan Hotel, then called The Summit, was the talk of the town for its ideal midtown location and tropical deco look. Designed by famed architect Morris Lapidus, the building's curving façade coated in seafoam-colored brick was an extreme contrast to the somber hues and straight lines of the surrounding skyscrapers.

During the next two decades, the bright colors were traded in for muted tones and the name was changed to Loews New York Hotel. But one thing remained the same--the hotel's popularity with people seeking a prime Manhattan location as a base for their city travels.

Editorial Review for DoubleTree Metropolitan Hotel – by J.P. Anderson

In Short
Warm chocolate chip cookies greet every guest at this Hilton-owned hotel, a friendly touch that fits in with the hotel's business-casual attitude. Another way Doubletree helps its guests relax is the Sweet Dreams bed, which features a pillow-top mattress, high thread-count linens, down comforters and lots of jumbo pillows. Amenities also include high-speed Internet access, in-room coffeemaker and complimentary newspaper; properties also typically feature a swimming pool, a fitness center and a range of meeting facilities.

My Wife and I came to visit New york before we moved here to finalize our decision. We had a great stay at the hotel! The staff was very pleasant and professional and acommodated to all of our needs, i would also have to agree that the room service was quite pricey, but the hotel is located near the heart of NY!! everything is close by, with great restaurants and attractions, that your day doesnt have to be wasted away in the hotel. Coming back from walking around all day, my wife and I found the beds to be very comfortable!! This hotel def influenced our decision to move here!

Pros: near attractions and many great restaurants

Cons: room service is pricey

My husband and I stayed here last weekend for a getaway to the city. We were on a plane all night, and were very tired when we arrived at the hotel at 8:30 am. Almost certain we were going to be told to check our bags and return later, we were delighted to hear that our room was ready! They gave us some warm cookies, wished us a good rest and suggested we talk with the concierge if we were wondering what to do in town. The beds were very comfortable, and the room was nice but small. (What do you expect in NYC?) The toiletries were nice and the room was very clean. The hotel is only a 6 dollar cab fare from Fifth Avenue. We highly recommend it! Tip: Visit Cafe Metro right next door to the hotel. The food is delicious and a lot cheaper than room service. Great to eat there, and great breakfast to go!

Pros: Centrally located, good value, yummy cookies, really comfortable beds!

Cons: $30 for eggs and toast from room service. Ouch!
