“best bar in nyc!”
“Not sure that it is the best place to bring your straight girl friends, at least on the weekend.”
“the boys are cute & varied in age, and the bartenders are the absolute best in town (esp sweet alex).”
Rockin!. Probably the most mysterious and cool place I have found in the city. No attitude atmosphere, a constant enigma. Definately the kind of place where amazing things can happen if you just let them. If everyone shpwed up here, the parties would be off the hook.
Great little gay bar. The Slide is a great little bar. The go go dancers on the weekend are fun, though they could be cuter. I liked not paying a cover charge, but the $7 well drinks were a bit high. The clientele was lively, though pretty gay. Not sure that it is the best place to bring your straight girl friends, at least on the weekend.
The latest addition to Marion's glamorous empire keeps the party going strong..
The Scene
A welcome hideaway on the booming Bowery, this basement lounge is tonier than the typical East Village gay bar, with a cross-pollination of after-dinner crowd from Marion's and upscale East Village queer. Management frowns on "grunge," but admits the spot has become a frisky late-night stop on the Friday night bar troll. Named for a notorious 1890s Bowery bar rife with rent boys and "fairy" servers, the Slide snapped up its furnishings--including the lovely wooden bar--from a bulldozed 1904 Allentown club called German Oak.
The Draw
Even though the peekaboo window in the stained-glass entrance cries out for a password, there's often not even a cover. In addition to the unique bathroom (equipped with a window view of the rear lounge), a working fireplace, go-go boys on weekends and inventive cocktails top off the perks.
Sat. night FUN!!. I went for the first time last sat. night, What a great evening, hot boys (especially NIKKO, HE IS A HOT GO-GO BOY THERE) hot crowd, it is mixed so you can bring your girlfriends and they wont feel uncomfortable. the slide on Saturday night is the place to be!!!
best bar in nyc!!!. i ADORE 'slide'. it feels like an extension of my apt-a second living room really. as an after work bar, it's laid-back, friendly & unpretentious. later at night, and on weekends, it becomes much more active, sexy without being too sleazy-very much like my own apt. the boys are cute & varied in age, and the bartenders are the absolute best in town (esp sweet alex). if i were forced to choose one bar to go to the rest of my life in nyc 'slide' wins hands down. i'm serious.
Cheap and Dirty. A friend of mine and I found the Slide by accident, but now it's one of our favorite spots. The happy hour is amazing (and sometimes gets extended if the bartender's in a good mood), so are the bartenders and everyone there is attitude-free. The first night we went ended up being trivia night and my friend won us free drinks. The only drawbacks are that the stairs could be a hazard (kind of steep for the already intoxicated) and the lighting's a bit dark. If you're looking for a cheap and dirty time, the Slide is it.
