Wonderful Teachers--A Great Value!
by Midtown Mom
I was delighted to find this resource right around the corner from where we live. My older son and daughter are taking voice and guitar and they really look forward to their lessons. The staff members were extremely helpful--they steered me away from guitar lessons for my youngest (he's 5) pointing out that his hands were too small to use a half size guitar without getting frustrated. He's taking keyboard, which is managable and fun for him instead. I appreciate that the focus here seems to me on making sure that the students have a good experience, not just selling lessons.
Do not use this place

My son was enrolled at this place for guitar lessons and what a disaster. The know it all a-hole that runs the place gives lessons in a 2'x4' closet and does not have a clue how to teach. the place smells of old dogs (there are two that roam the place, one of which barks sporadically at people that walk by the door ). oh did i mention the stench from his chain smoking body. he was such an idiot I wanted to rearrange his face but mother nature has taken of that already
The Dogs Speak Up

We look pretty and we smell good too!
However, as to the other issues , point well taken, "Foxtrot". Imagine--music lessons going on in a music school, lessons that involve THE PLAYING OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS!! How distracting. Oh the horror THE HORROR. Why if we weren't the official Music School Dogs we would never set foot in such a place.
Well, maybe for treats ...

- Cons: Not enough treats
These People Spent a Lot of Time Helping Me With My Daughter's Request to Study Harp
by brideys
My thirteen year old niece had a fantasy about studying harp. I think it had something to do with wearing a glamorous diaphanous dress and strumming soulfully. Anyway the people at City Music Schools were delightful. They steared us away from orchestral harp (the big heavy, non portable, and expensive to maintain option--it seems a set of strings costs over $1000.) They suggested folk harp, which is portable and affordable and told us where to get one. Then they hooked us up with an instructor. Now my daughter is living her "Celtic Woman" fantasy!
- Pros: delightful staff
- Cons: non that I can think of.
For Musical Theater Performers These are the Best Most Affordable Classes in Town!
by Citilover
I have been a student here since I arrived in NYC 7 years ago. I can't imagine what I would have done without these folks! 4 private lessons for $86! My current vocal coach is an award winning musical director, whose input has been invaluable. When I wanted to study piano to get a better grip on music theory they found me someone fabulous and I could actually afford to do this as well. This is a bit off topic, but I am befuddled by the review that goes on and on about monologues and casting couches--what does that have to do with music lessons? Is this person confused? Anyway, I highly recommend this place.
- Pros: Great staff!
- Cons: Practice rooms are on the small size--but the fabulous instructors are worth it.
