“From walking in the door, being promptly seated, very friendly staff, who went out of they're way to serve.”
“Good burgers but kinda expensive”

"Rare's rose velvet banquettes and dark wood furnishings are set off by a multitude of red votives and red glass lampshades".
"The Roquefort stuffed burger ($9.50) comes with tomato, onion, etc. but the big meat patty is the star! It is unbelievablely juicy....This is the BEST burger I have had in years." NY Press May 2003
"An even better "burger" is the salmon burger ($14.50). The fillet is moist & tender, and the sushi-inspired preparation is now the only way I want to eat salmon". NY Press May 2003

Fun Lunch Spot. I really like Rare for lunch. It has a rooftop deck and the burger on brioche is fantastic. If you asked for Mango on your burger, I bet they would have it. Won't break the bank, and a real hipster crowd.
LOVE this place.
Kobe Beef Omelet...need i say anything more??? AMAZING. Great burgers. im from florida so I was hesitant to try anything in NYC but everyone was real nice too.
huge drinks.
would definitely go back
Best burgers ever?. Being British, we walked 20 blocks to this restaurant, and boy was it worth it! I can honestly say it is the BEST burger restaurant I have EVER been to! Our waitress was extremely helpful, nothing too much trouble. There is an extensive selection of burgers and the like to choose from and I was spoilt for choice as were the other four members of our party. If we get to NY again, this place will certainly be on the 'must do' list!
Burgers, Burgers, Burgers. If you're in the mood for the best burger of your life...RUN to Rare Bar & Grill. Stopped in one night for a quick bite and didn't realize what an amazing experience I was getting myself into. I started with Fried Calamari & the Spinach Artichoke Dip, moved onto the M & M Burger (which is flambeed in whiskey) and a side of Parmesan Truffle Fries. From start to finish my meal was delicious, staff was friendly and helpful. After dinner I headed up to the rooftop bar (Rare View) where I took in breath taking views and had a couple of great cocktails. All in all an evening out I will not forget and hope to relive very soon.
Dieting? Forget it!. You can easily share a burger here at Rare (tucked in the Affinia Shelburne Hotel), but you won't want to! You'll want to eat the whole thing and lick the plate clean. Yes, the burgers are that good! We stopped in recently, rather early on a weekday evening, and had to wait a bit for a table, but finally settled on a high top near the bar. Drinks are generous in size, service is friendly and informal. Noise level even near the bar is tolerable. Only drawback is the rather lengthy trek to the restrooms -- they are out an interior door (to the hotel lobby), and down a flight of stairs. But don't let that stop you from enjoying a "rare" experience. From service to quality of the food, things are well done at Rare!
Rare roof experience.
A large roof deck for warm evening cocktails. It does offer the (as advertised) sweeping views of our lovely lower midtown skyline.
A vast expansive space with little alcoves that offer spaces that offer the opportunity for conversation away from the masses.
Weeknight evening find this spot filled with the suited after work crowd. Weekend afternoons into evening offer a more relaxed atmosphere.
Navigating through the crowd can be daunting - knowing which area you are meeting friends ahead of time is helpful.
Pick your spot - and stick with it is my suggestion.
Best burger ever!!!. I'm a burger man, and thought I new a good burger, then I had one here. That was the 9 dollar buger....
Nice for a drink after work. Met up with some old and new friends on a Wednesday night after work. The staff was very friendly, drinks were fine, but since still early in the summer... got a bit cool outside early and there were no propane heaters like other venues to sit underneath. I would go back again, once the weather warms up a bit more.
Damn Good Dirty Brunch.
I had been perusing CitySearch for a good brunch place around Grand Central...I came across Rare, which I thought was just a burger joint, and curiously checked out their menu. They had the most unhealthy, greasy, dirty, and DELICIOUS menu...So I had to check it out...
The following meals were what we ordered (along with descriptions):
-Kobe Beef Omelet: Did I say Dirty and DELICIOUS?! This thing was huge, greasy and scrumptious. It came with a well dressed salad AND a big bowl of fruit (which we dipped in the Honey Maple sauce- I'll explain later)
-Texas Omelet: Sloppy and SCRUMPTIOUS! Not as good as the Kobe omelet, but different and very tasty! Also came with a salad.
-Brunch Banana Waffles: Oh My God... While I WILL say, the waffle itself was a bit dry (next time, I'd totally get the french toast, also served with the bananas), the bananas on this thing were INCREDIBLE!!! They were made "Banana's Foster" style and were simply outstanding!
-As a side to share with the whole table (though it wasn't needed...HUGE portions), we ordered the sweet potato fries which were really good and came with this Honey Maple sauce that honestly could induce an org@sm (we even dipped the fruit in it and my friend put some on her waffles)
Overall, we had a great experience. And I didn't even mention the FREE cocktails! Great (and strong) Bloody Mary's, and a good Mimosa too...All included with our meals, and just one gave us a good buzz.
All this food & drink cost us only $50. DEFINITELY coming back soon!
The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars, is simply because we had to wait a long time to get our food...we were starving and it was SO hard to watch and smell everyone around us eating this amazing food.
BTW- For all you late risers, their brunch lasts til 4PM!!!
Great place for mojitos!!. I stopped by after work with a few friends.... It wasnt too crowded at that point, and our waitress was very prompt and friendly. We decided on mojitos ( a little pricey- but worth it), and just enjoyed the scenery, the music ( the speakers could be upgraded a bit) and of course, the conversation. I was also pleased that I was able to purchase a cigar right there on the roof. The only downfall was that there was no food available or even allowd- Other than that I would definately recommend this place for anyone who wants a real taste of the manhattan scene!
