Housed in a landmark building (circa 1812) with a colorful past, our Seaport Heartland is a must-visit for beer history buffs and anyone exploring this richly historic neighborhood. Once the home of North Star Pub, this Heartland features many of its predecessor's original decorative elements, including a refurbished "fiddler" mahogany bar, tin ceiling, and bentwood chairs, as well as "brewerania" (e.g. pre-Prohibition beer labels) from owner Jon Bloostein's collection. Since man can't survive on beer and history alone, be sure to try our stellar barbecue.

The Scene – This outpost of the Heartland Brewery chain is nestled right across from the East River at South Street Seaport. The crowd is a mix of tourists traveling to and from the scenic destination and casual imbibers looking to spend the afternoon nursing any of the brewery's signature beers. Affable bartenders preside over the rich mahogany bar. – – The Food – With a nod to its surroundings, the upscale pub menu is strong on seafood. Square mini-burgers and chicken tenders are popular starters. A pulled pork sandwich is tender and overflowing with meat and…

Amazing Signature Beers
by Burlington Tom at Citysearch
I've been to the Heartland Brewery in Union Square a bunch of times, but only once to the South Street location. I brought my parents here for lunch and we loved it. I highly recommend any of their amazing microbrews, especially the Bavarian Black (winter), or the Smilin' Pumpkin Ale (autumn). We ordered the beer sampler platter, giving us the full array of flavorful beers available at Heartland. Try the buffalo wings, they go anong great with any of the brews. This particular Heartland is charming and doesn't feel like it's part of a chain of faceless restaurant/bars. The service seemed normal to me. We got our orders and refills promptly and the waitress was quite friendly.
- Pros: Great Tasting Beer, Cozy Atmosphere

This place is downright awful. You would think a Brewery in the picturesque South Street Seaport would be an enjoyable experience but it wasn't. Extremely slow service, with rookie waiters/waitresses makes a 30 minute lunch take an hour and a half. The Nacho's were stale, and we didn't get our appetizer until after we'd finished our entree. I hear their beer is o.k. but I would never suggest going here to anyone. Looks nice but trust me never go there.
Not Great for an office birthday lunch!
by nikki0602 at Citysearch
We chose Heartland Brewery as the location for an office birthday lunch due to the reputation of the other Heartland Brewery restaurants we have been to. Unfortunately, this location at South Street didn't live up to the standard. Our waitress was obviously too busy to wait on all of her tables. My party of six was the last to get our orders taken after she decided to tend to other patrons who arrived after us. It was a complete disappointment and I will not have anymore group lunches at Heartland Brewery. I honestly believe it was going to be great food and great service but that wasn't the case at all!
- Cons: Waitress Staff
Great seaport location for good beer
by punky21 at Citysearch
This place was built for tourists so it is too bad they don't offer any happy hour specials... but it is worth the trip anyway.
The option of sitting outside and people-watching is definitely a plus in the summer months. The seaport usually has a band playing during the week and that is within earshot... another plus.
The bar munchies are definitely above par and the assortment of seasonal beers is a must try for any New Yorker. My favorite is the Pumpkin Ale offered in the Fall but the Apricot Summer Ale is great, also.
- Pros: seasonal beers, food, location
- Cons: , no trains near it

Great place - Dark Wood - a lot of the original detail. It has a wonderful atmosphere and the beer and food are way above par. I love the fish and chips.
