Editorial Review for The Full Shilling – by Leah Hochbaum

In Short
With its 105-year-old interior bar shipped directly from a pub in Belfast, the Full Shilling offers Old-World ambience to the modern Wall Street crowd. Packing this place at lunch and after work on weekdays, young yuppie-types gather round the tavern's single TV. Patrons plow through the pub's hearty menu of beer-battered fish-and-chips with tartar sauce, bangers and mash, and shepherd's pie, but have a hard time choosing between 17 draft beers.

Insider Tips

Know Before You Go

Call ahead to reserve the "snug," a private room at the end of the bar with a hatch for service. It guarantees some quiet time with your significant other.

When to Go

While the bar remains open until midnight on weekdays, the kitchen closes at 9pm.

My husband & I recently moved to Battery Park City and happily stumbled upon The Full Shilling while exploring downtown. We'll gladly make the 10 minute walk from home for the cozy atmosphere, excellent pub food and my husband's favorite beer on tap. If only they were open on weekends!

Pros: Delicious pub food, warm atmosphere, excellent beer menu

Cons: Closed on weekends, not closer to home ;)
