Apple Store - Really Shiny.
The largest Apple Store, at 18,000 square feet, opened in early 2006, and hasn't closed yet (it's open 24/7). Descend a glass staircase or elevator inside this edifice on Fifth Avenue and 59th Street, topped by a clear cube, to the store below, where there is a 46-seat theater and 14 Internet-connected computers fully loaded with games -- a geek's paradise. It's almost impossible to walk by without popping in to see what the fuss is all about. If you're not into investing in all the Apple gadgets sold here, it's still fun to try out the floor samples.
This is my favorite Apple Store in NYC (and the NY/NJ area) and my go-to-place if I want to go and actually walk out with something in my hand. The staff here is VERY friendly and helpful, contrary to the useless and borderline rude folks at the Genius Bar at Nyack and Paramus.
BIG kudos to the Apple Store in Greenwich Village... last night, I walked in to exchange my Iphone. I dropped the phone a few weeks ago, rendering the mic useless; all other features worked on the phone. I was expecting a BIG drama and quasi-harassment for requesting an exchange.
Best Apple store ever!. I had an amazing experience with the Apple store in SoHo, much to my surprise. I guess I always thought that Apple as a brand is a bit snooty, so of course its employees would be, too. A couple of years ago I purchased a Macbook Pro for nearly two grand because I wanted to get into graphics and video work. In the last couple of weeks the machine has been conking out on me in that really creepy turning-on-and-off-with-a-flashing-screen kind of way, and I had my tech-savvy friend tinker with it to no avail. I didn't want to take it to the Apple store because my warranty had run out and I really didn't want to deal with paying a grand to get the thing fixed. I was all set to do some serious screaming when I set foot in there, but as soon as I described how the laptop had been acting up the Apple guy said, hey, yeah, that's a known issue with this generation of Macbook Pro's - something to do with how the motherboard reacts to the graphics card. Without any fuss he told me he'd order a new motherboard and install it on my machine - all free of charge. I was aghast. Really?! Wow! He was so nice about it, too, patiently (and fruitlessly) explaining to me what exactly was wrong. I dropped it off in the store at the end of visit, expecting to pick it up in a week or so. Instead - again, to my complete amazement - I got a call the next day informing me that my laptop was ready for pick up. Really?! WOW! It's all good now, and I just can't believe how awesome and how prompt Apple and its staff were in addressing the problem.
The Learning Lab.
A few years back I was a really lucky wife when I received a MacBook Air for Christmas. I had only mentioned it to my husband once that I liked it but I guess he was listening. On Christmas morning I was ridiculously surprised when I saw it under the tree.
Being a new Mac user I decided to sign up for the one-to-one training that Apple offers for a nominal fee. My weekly sessions with my genius at the SoHo store were delightful. Over a years time I learned how to use all the Mac Programs like iPhoto, iChat, Garage Band, iTunes and iDVD.
If you own or plan on owning an Apple product I would recommend you visit the SoHo store. This store is like the Apples learning lab. They not only offer the one-to-one training but they also have a theater where you can take part in scheduled training sessions while sitting in stadium style seating. I absolutely love the theater! You can go online to see what trainings they are offering on any given day and when you get there all you need to do is find a seat and watch these geniuses at work.
Did I mention these training sessions are free???
Overall this apple store is great for those that are looking to learn something new from someone that knows A LOT!
UNWILLING TO MAKE EXCHANGES ON FAULTY PRODUCT. We know Apple makes good products. Sometimes however, you just get a lemon or product that does not function properly from the start. And God help you if you do because he or she is the only one who seems to be able to do so. Simply exchanging your product is such a fiasco and they make it so difficult, that the amount of time waisted, and the aggravation, just make so emotionally stressful, people simply give up. Or may favorite is when they blame the customer. Unless you have a surplus of cash to throw away, I would highly think twice before spending it here. Over a 5 year period, I have purchased at least 60 products and they would not even exchange a 140.00 printer that was faulty for one of the same. Unbelievable. They did it with my husbands Mac book pro as well. Please be careful.
Where all your Macintosh dreams come to life..
