What People Are Saying About Doma

In Short – Just stepping into this European-style cafe makes you feel properly intellectual. Almost everyone has a book open, a computer whirring or an important letter in progress. The menu mixes expected cafe fare, such as crispy hot panini sandwiches, a tangy house salad and luscious cakes, cookies, pies, pastries, with more ambitious daily specials, such as chicken liver pate, grilled endive salad and potato blintzes.

Mediocre

Doma is a seemingly nice place to chat and have drinks with a few friends however the food was just okay and the waitresses are paradigms of poor customer service.
The restaurant is small yet the waitress took about 20 minutes to get our orders. She seldom came back to my table to ask if I needed anything else and was not friendly.
The worst part of my stay at Doma was that she inconveniently told me, at the time I was paying my check, that the credit card machine was broken. She was apathetic about the situation and didn't give a damn that I had to use a viral ATM machine outside that will probably hack into my checking account.
Even if this restaurant had mind-blowing food I would not go back nor suggest it to anyone else.
Pass.
Nothing Special

I go to this neighborhood cafe once in a while, when I have a little time to kill. Its often crowded... and I cant figure out why. The food is variable, somethings are good and others are not. The drinks are made well, but the staff seems to be aloof.
The art work hanging on the walls is always atrocious, and they really need to figure something else out in that regard. Definitely a place to avoid on the weekends because the crowds just make this place horrible.
They used to serve blue-fish pate, which was the best thing on the menu. Its a shame they removed it.
Don't throw out the coffee with the bad service

I have gone to DOMA for years to write. The space is one of few in the city that has an old world feeling and being able to watch the morning unfold through the large windows helps with inspiration. The patrons during the week seem to largely be creatives who use the space to dine and get work done. And you have to pay your rent. Their real estate ain't cheap folks. I usually buy an entree and coffee, then a second cup of coffee and a cookie or muffin if I stay longer than an hour. The staff have never been pleasant, the nicer you are to them the more they will growl at you it seems, but they always deliver my food. So if you care what the woman behind the counter think, or how you will be treated don't go to DOMA. Oh and when you walk into DOMA, most people realize what kind of space it is, that it isn't a place where everyone in the room wants to hear about who slept with who or about your world travels or how bright your future looks. So if you don't clue into the fact that this is the vibe and don't try and keep your conversation within the confines of your group your obnoxious and deserve nasty looks. This is New York and sometimes it's nice to have a place where people congregate and there is quiet and mutual respect for what is going on around them.
- Pros: Food, Coffee
- Cons: Expectations that the women behind the counter care

Seriously... its a cafe not a library... and I was in there having an lovely time and the woman who worked there SHUSHED us... it was absurd... we were not even being loud... we were enjoying ourselves... but I will NEVER go back there again... RUDE RUDE RUDE... it's New York City for God's sake... don't go if you want to enjoy yourself with friends... they have rules up all over this little cafe... "you can only stay for 2 hours" is actually written on a board... please... who would want to stay that long with that woman there anyways...
- Pros: None that I experienced
- Cons: French woman at the counter

The coffee is amazing, they have a greet cook that always prepares food the same way and it's great! Service is very bad, last week I saw a girl on the phone, another talking to a friend, I just could not order my food so I left!
