This flower shop was recommended me to by a friend. The name isn't catchy, but it tells you exactly where it is: a good thing since it's small and easy to miss. While it looks crowded, he has a full selection in the cold room. For especially large orders, you may want to call ahead. The owner, Jason, is very friendly. He has a constantly change selection of flowers in the fridge from which you can pick for an arrangement, or have him design one. Unlike the flowers at many bodegas in NYC, there are more than just the usual roses, daisies, and lillies. More importantly, they last much longer. He usually arranges similarly fragrant flowers together so the bouquet smells quite pleasant. I've used this florist for many occasions, and have always been happy with the results. One minor note: if you order two bouquets on the same day and don't want them to be identical, let him know that when you order. Local delivery is $7, but I usually just pick them up. An "average" bouquet cost $40, and is well worth it. It doesn't seem like he advertises much; it's mostly word-of-mouth.

Pros: Cheaper than "national" companies, flowers long-lasting

Cons: Stock changes daily, so pick-you-own bouquets only possible same-day

I decided to use this florist for my wedding flowers because it was very close to my apt and the owner seemed very friendly. However, it turned out their service is a nightmare and the owner is very sneaky. The day before the wedding, I found out the bowls for centerpieces were too small and had to run around to get the bowls and almost missed the rehearsal dinner. Then on the wedding day, the flower delivery was delayed by an hour and the flowers came not fresh. The owner Jason purposely did a very vague contract with me (so that I have no way to dsipute him) and promised me everything would be great. It turned out he used cheapest flowers possible and did not arrange the flowers anywhere like my picture demonstrated. He is running an unethical business.
