In Short – John Frieda started as an editorial stylist for publications like British Vogue in the '70s and '80s, but is now a household name thanks to his cutting-edge style and mass-marketed products. Tourists hit Frieda's flagship a few blocks downtown, but in-the-know New Yorkers flock to his no-frills salon nestled into an unassuming apartment building. The salon's 10 chairs are reserved for cuts and color only, and white walls, cream couches, big windows and full-length mirrors create a clean, airy feel.
