“Good food, bad service”
“Yes, Pick a Bagel may have good bagels, but the service is horrible and they are very expensive.”
“It pains me a little to patronize this establishment because the people who work there are slow, often rude, and likely to mess up your order, but I keep going back anyway because you can't get a decent bagel anywhere else in this neighborhood.”
Good Bagels but not good enough to offset the BAD SERVICE and EXPENSIVE PRICES. Yes, Pick a Bagel may have good bagels, but the service is horrible and they are very expensive. On this latter point, my co-workers call this place "Pick A Pocket". Regarding the service, this morning was the last straw. I ordered a container of egg salad and a toasted whole wheat bagel. By the time I got up to the register, I had not received my order (which was a good 10 minutes). I asked the lady at the register to check on my order which I had to repeat several times. The worker behind the counter handed me the bagel. I asked where is the egg salad, and he very rudely said he already gave it to me in a very accusatory tone. I told him he did not, and showed him my hands. He then handed me my complete order without even an apology. Who needs this first thing in the morning? This is not the only game in town. Battery Park City has plenty of other places which I intend to patronize from this day forward.
An unassuming chain purveyor of super-sized bagels..
In Short
Pick a Bagel's decor is cafeteria-like, with a drop ceiling, fluorescent lighting and faux-wood tables. A small, friendly team of attendants fields orders from a steady stream of local office workers. The huge bagels' fluffy, chewy interiors are marked by occasional large bubbles. Accoutrements consist of the usual assortment of spreads, salads and smoked fish. The eatery also doles out reliable soups, salads and wraps.
Good food, bad service. The service is awful and the prices are obscene, but the bagels and baked goods are delicious. It pains me a little to patronize this establishment because the people who work there are slow, often rude, and likely to mess up your order, but I keep going back anyway because you can't get a decent bagel anywhere else in this neighborhood. If another bagel store were to open up near by that had good bagels, even if they were slightly less good than pick-a-bagel, I would gladly go there instead. Until that happens, however, I will continue to get my bagels at pick-a-bagel.
