Nice Place But....
by HaroldH at Citysearch
four of us went there after theater as we were staying nearby. three of us had a couple of drinks each and ordered several appetizers. One of our group was from the USS New York, being commissioned that weekend. He drank soft drinks as he had to be on the ship early the next day. After reviewing the bill the next morning, I was amazed to see this place had charged us $2.50 for each of the three soft drink refills he had, while the rest of us drank and ate for at least 1.5 hours.
- Pros: Excellent Service, Good Drinks, friendly staff
- Cons: charging for coke refills?
This is a hidden gem.

This is a hidden gem. We have now dined at Zana Cafe well over a dozen times. The ambiance is very romantic. The drinks are varied and delicious and about what you'd expect to pay in Manhattan. The wine list, though brief, pairs very well with the Continental/Mediterranean menu.
Most importantly, the food and service is consistently excellent. The specials are always enticing and worth considering. The prices for meals of this quality are surprisingly reasonable. We have never been disappointed. This has quickly become our favorite midtown restaurant. Buon appetito!
- Pros: Food, service and ambience
- Cons: None
Shockingly Abusive Bartender
by judylo70 at Citysearch
On my third visit to Zana, I witnessed the most horrible behavior from a bartender I'd seen in 30 years in NYC. First she started ranting at a guy who was trying to order more drinks--he was nice, she was abusive. Something about separate checks. The poor guy kept trying to calm her down and pay his bill. Then a trio of elderly Danish tourists came in and ordered a bottle of wine. She screamed at them: You can't take that to your hotel room! (They didn't want to.) She then set out 4 glasses (for 3 people) and poured out the bottle. Their English wasn't so great, so I tried to help them. Result: When I asked--again-- for a water back for my drink, she told me, "You'll get your water, but I won't serve you anymore!"
