Best bar in NYC – I can't praise McGee's enough. McGee's is a great bar for everyone - if you're a sports lover, there are T.V.'s all over the place; if you want to grab a quiet romantic drink, that's possible too; and no matter what, it's a great place to just hang out with your friends. I celebrated my 30th birthday there, and the staff were so accommodating and the private party room was perfect for a large group.
Not only is the atmosphere itself great, but the staff are so friendly and attentive - McGee's has the best bartenders around. The food is fantastic too.
Not only is McGee's a fun bar, but it has a lot of history - having first been in the Ed Sullivan theater. McGee's is also the bar that McLaren's is based on in the hit TV show How I Met Your Mother.
McGee's is a bar that can't be beat.
Smells awful and service is worse – Went to this a place last weekend and the ladies bathroom perfumed the entire restaurant... Lovely... After watching football, eating and drinking for a few hours, our original server asked if she could settle our tab as her shift was up... No problem... Left her a nice tip... Our next server arrived about thirty minutes later and the first words out of her mouth were "I need you to move to another table." We had been there for several hours (when no one was there) and fully planned on eating and drinking throughout the 2H of the NFL playoff game... So I said that I would prefer to stay where we were... She scoffed at us, refused to take our orders and hid behind the bar until we left... There are so many better places than to have to tolerate such service... McGee's stinks
How I met Mclaren's – McLaren's is a great place to hang with your bros, grab a beer, and talk about how you're still looking for that perfect woman in your life. Even if your in your 20s and a serious relationship and parenting isn't something normal for peole your age to talk about. The locals here are great and always fun to watch; womanizing Barney Stinson, nice guy Ted Mosby, and hottie Robin Scherbatsky all help to give the place a neighborhood feel and the friends you never knew you had. Carl the bartender/ owner and Wendy the waitress really provide a service so smooth it's as if they just melt into the background. Overall a Legend-Ary bar.
Great Guinness – Excellent service always from Paul, Maureen, Denise and Cathail. Cozy feel, great wings, darts, 3 levels of fun.
How I Met Your Mother fans – this is the bar that "McClarins" from the show is based off of...the writers of the show (aka: "The Solids" - musicians as well) apparently used to hang out in this bar..and it was an inspiration for the bar that the group hangs out in on "how i met your mother" (CBS sitcom) pretty cool fact.
Great Fun! – I threw my boyfriend a birthday party here and it was amazing. We got open bar for all of our guests in a private room at a great price! The music was awesome, and the drinks were strong!
Average Pub - Great Service – The place goes from average to recommended because of the service and the crowd. Nice folks and a nice atmosphere is created at McGee's. The price is standard, but with daily/nightly specials. The food is adequate to good, esp. for bad food.
Average – Nothing bad nothing special about this place. They have a decent internet jukebox and a daily beer special. The food menu is somewhat limited. About 4 flat screen tv's for game watching. The decor is kind of blase.
Editorial Review – Big-screen televisions, bottled and draft beers, and a menu sporting American and Irish fare at this two-story pub.
Oooh! The fireplace! – McGee's is a nice and recently renovated venue for watching the games, meeting old and new friends, and having a good time. They have new plasma tv's and the standard front projection set. We usually make this a anchor spot to rendevous with visitors to NYC because all the major hotels are nearby. The selling amenity is the fireplace opposite the bar for those chilly nights. Friendly staff and courteous.
