Editorial Review for Flatiron Lounge – by Melissa Kirsch
The Scene
Guys and dolls seeking an upscale watering hole with more than a hint of speakeasy charm will fall to their knees for this art-deco hideaway. No detail has been spared--from the Cole Porter music and shiny red booths to the blue-mirrored tile walls and velvet bar stools--in creating a swing-era lounge where Rat Pack-ish taste-makers and their dates will feel at home.
The Draw
From the nearly impeccable drink menu, try the refreshing Juniper Breeze, infused with elderflower cordial. Be sure to sample the "Flight of the Day," a trio of themed cocktails served in small martini glasses (e.g., the "Flight to Kentucky" features drinks all made with Maker's Mark). The muddled strawberry and tequila Morango, however, is simply a door-knock away from a super-sized margarita. Guest mixologists such as Audrey Saunders of Bemelmans Bar loan their favorite libation recipes to the already stellar list.

Insider Tips
When to GoMondays and Tuesdays are slow, so if quiet cocktailing is your thing, consider hitting the bar early in the week.
What to DrinkThe classic sidecar comes mixed with Hennessy, Cointreau and fresh-squeezed lemon juice. It's served in a glass rimmed with super-fine sugar for a refreshing treat.

I have been a loyal customer of Flatiron since it opened- I've entertained clients there and even hosted a large party there. On a recent visit I was in with a group of 5 coworkers after work. We stayed until 10.30- with a bar tab of over $250. When I went to pay the bill I noticed that they charged $4 for a glass of club soda. I asked the waitress about it who agreed that it was a ridiculous charge, and sent the manager over. The manager immediately became defensive, stating that it was normal for New York, that I was wrong and that she refused to take it off. I found myself arguing over the stupid charge, and eventually (more to end the discussion), gave up and asked her to run my card. She refused and told me that it was my waitress’s job. It is an unfortunate trend in New York to treat good, paying customers awfully. I thought this bar was immune, based on previous pleasant experiences there. I am more then happy to pay $15 for a martini, as long as it comes with a little service and not a $4 glass of carbonated tap water with a lot of attitude! I will NOT be back.
Pros: Great atmosphere, design
Cons: Nasty, nasty manager

We went and had one their flights. It was very tasty. The drinks are made with a lot of flair and fun. Cool decor. Yes the drinks are expensive, but really no more than anywhere else in Manhattan!! Loved it.
