Do NOT shop at the Door Store!
by rachelblue at Citysearch
My husband and I purchased (with cash, because there was a discount) a dining room table from the Door Store in July (back when my husband was still my fiance). It's now December, and we have gotten married and still have yet to receive said table.
Their original delivery estimate was 6-8 weeks. Fine. Then we started getting a different story every time we called...oh, it's delayed another two weeks, it's not in the country yet, it's IN the country but hasn't cleared customs, we have the chairs but not the table, it'll be another month, etc.
At one point they offered us a refund, and we decided to stick it out...then when we decided to take the refund, they rescinded the offer and said we were only entitled to store credit.
Employees admitted to us that they had been told to lie about the reason for the delays, which almost angers me more than not getting the table. Lying to your customers is just BAD business practice, and we will definitely be spreading the word that no one should shop there ever again!
- Cons: poor customer service, bad business practices
DO NOT SHOP HERE

I had a sweet sales person that I guess was just hungry to close a sale. I was interested in purchasing a dresser that was on sale at the West 17th Street location, but I needed the dimensions. We agreed that I would give a $200.00 deposit, go home, measure the space and call that day to say whether or not it will fit. If it does not fit, they will credit me my $200.00 back and I don't have to take the store credit. Great. Wonderful service.
I went home that afternoon, and the dresser was too big so I called my salesperson to assure my refund. The next day they charged me $200.00 and 31 days later, I still did not receive my money back. The store robbed me. They stole my money.
I spoke with corporate (American Signature Furniture) to find out that the Door Store went Bankrupt on 11/18/09 and my money was taken. They have no money to give me back. They can extend a store credit.
Although they may have an attractive showcase, please be careful when they are pushing a sale or making "deals" to work with you. They will steal your money.
- Pros: Attractive furniture
- Cons: Poor & Unethical Service and Follow Through
FURNITURE DOESN'T LAST
by MLEV at Citysearch
We bought nice looking stools in 2004.They were barely used, but 3 years later, the back strap on both fell off due to the fake leather simply wearing out. Their answer? The company provides only a 1-year warranty. This may be acceptable on electronics, but furniture should last more than 1 year. I would never invest money in their furniture again.
- Pros: Good prices, good design
- Cons: Terrible quality
