Great place to learn Social Dancing or Wedding Dance. This is my favorite dance studio in the city because the teachers are very genuine and teach lots of leading and following skills so that you can dance with anyone! I have been to several other studios where they talk about social dancing but what they're actually teaching is choreography. Several friends have now gone there to prepare for their wedding dance and have also given them a rave review. And, despite having studied for several years now, I always find something new to learn because they have a lot of classes and a lot of teachers to choose from.
The Place to Start Your Tango on the Right Foot.
I've been in and around the New York Tango scene for a long time. When beginners want to start out right — I send them to Dance Manhattan. And when more experienced dancers are looking for interesting workshops with visiting instructors, private lessons, etc. I also point them toward Dance Manhattan.
The Argentine Tango is not an easy dance, I think people get frustrated and blame the teacher or school when they have simply not given themselves enough time to feel comfortable at a Milonga.
Great Studio. I"ve been taking classes and private lessons at Dance Manhattan in salsa, Lindy, and West Coast Swing for the past 2 years. The instructors are the best and the staff has always been courteous and friendly.
Great place to learn how to dance!. I've taken classes in Lindy Hop, West Coast and Ballroom, with fantastic instructors. Teachers are well versed in the material, break the content down into understandable moves and techniques. Lindy hop instructors in particular are all well known on a national level.
SO DISAPPOINTED - terrible customer service.
I booked private lessons for my fiancee and I to take classes before our wedding. I was SO disappointed with the experience - they turned something that was very important and special to me into something stressful and upsetting. They messed us around with instructors and when I complained all I got was push back. As a result, we spend loads of money and don't even have a dance prepared for our wedding.
I was tossing up between here and Sandra Cameron and really wished I'd picked SC.
I would highly recommend that you don't waste your money at this studio.
Dance Manhattan, worse place for tango.
Worse tango classes in NY!
Attended classes with 2 different instructors there. Both were horrible.
The receptionists refused that I join certain classes because of the level policy they had yet when I attended the classes they suggested the turned out to be very basic. They refused to refund me and they refused that I attend another class instead of the one I paid for and couldn't benefit from. They said all what can be done is that they can allow me to attend the more advanced class since I proved I can get into that but I still need to pay twice!!! I did not accept paying twice and I did not want to attend their class anyways because the instructors were so bad!
If you want to learn tango, DO NOT GO THERE!
Nice place.
I took basic Salsa classes there and their Instructor Rodney Lopez was great! He is not only a good dancer, but a very good teacher. He makes everybody feel comfortable, gives great tips on how to improve and the size of the class was really good too. He also breaks down the steps in a very understandable way, so really everybody is able to follow.
When I took an advanced class with another Instructor I was really dissapointed.
The overall experience was good and I had a great time.
If you want to take classes there, I would suggest to go to one of their events on certain weekends and see which Instructor you like best and choose your classes based on the Instructor.
Overrated Dance Studio. This place is overrated. There is a large variety of dances, but the classes are large. One instructor with lots of students. Plus the place is run poorly. There is one really nice receptionist, but other than that, they are pretty much all about the money.
Great location, wide range of classes, skilled instructors, large community of students. I stumbled upon Dance Manhattan after attending the Big Apple Ranch event there one night. I had been wanting to take dance lessons and was searching around for a studio so that was very convenient. DM has great rates, a large variety of styles and a great community of students at different levels. I went in with two left feet and didn't feel intimidated. There are instructors who are quite skilled at what they do - I only wish the classes were longer: 1.5 hours instead of 1 hour. I recommend this studio if you are looking to learn how to dance.
This studio caters to all those wishing to learn the various styles of ballroom dancing..
