Citysearch Editorial Review. Southwest D.C. isn't usually a draw for a night out, but this bar and restaurant--the only one in D.C. actually on the water--is a destination spot. Just a few short blocks from the Waterfront Metro stop on the green line, Cantina Marina is a popular stop after Nats games and for cooling off on hot nights with a frozen margarita (get it in lime, strawberry or raspberry). The menu focuses on Gulf Coast and Cajun fare such as gumbo, fried catfish and jamalaya pasta--though Cantina Marina is best known for its fish tacos (get them with the chips and salsa and something from the Mexican beer selection). With string lights, deck seating, and lit-up plastic palm trees, it feels a bit like spring break in Cancun--but in the best possible way.

SW with a view. It’s not the beach, or the ocean, but for being a couple minutes from the Metro, it will do. The restaurant deck juts out over the docks; and an impressive panoramic scene of the river, boats and parkland isn’t like anything I’ve found here yet. I tried to pretend it wasn’t the unsavory Potomac, and I succeeded. My dining mate insisted that I get the fish tacos, which come with lime, sour cream and salsa. The two tacos were tasty, but somewhat small, and I thought overpriced at $11. Service was also a little lax (and really sweaty), but I guess that wasn’t a surprise at a really laid-back, outdoor restaurant in the DC summer. Lunch wasn’t as beer-filled as this place seems to get, but I can surely see a great happy hour with a few Tecate beers and a noisy crowd watching the sun go down on the river.

Server was on point and constantly checking on us!. I really liked this place. Joined some Yelpers for a Cinco de Mayo extravaganza and had a great time. I ordered a shot of Patron, 2 Dos Equis, and some very delicious fish tacos. Even though I wish I had gotten there earlier, luckily the line was gone by the time I did finally arrive. There were a lot of people, but it didn't feel crowded to me, which is good. Our server, Robin, was on point and constantly checking on us to make sure everything was cool. All in all, I love this spot and can't wait to go back.

I was transported to a beach bar!. The atmosphere is terrific here - I really felt like I was transported to a beach bar. Since I have had little time at Florida beach bars, I'll say that it made me feel like I was at one of those Ocean City bars on the bay side. The whole place was on a wooden deck at the end of a dock and had a very festive feel to it. All the staff I encountered were very friendly.

So next time you are looking for a relaxing and fun place to spend a sunset at, this would definitely be the place!

laid back. I LOVE Cantina Marina! It's a wonderful place to go in the summer. It's right on the water and just really laid back. It feels like being at the beach. The food is good. But I just love the location!

Best kept secret!. Casual waterfront dining at it's best!: You can't beat the food the atmosphere or the friendly service at this best-kept-secret on the Southwest Waterfront. Great after work and weekend afternoons. It's also a great place to throw a party--they'll cater everything.

An escape from D.C. streets. While taking advantage of the warm weather this past week a few friends and I decided to visit Cantina Marina located on the SW waterfront. Although I very rarely visit SW D.C. I have to say my experience at Cantina will have me coming back more often. The cool breeze from the water as we sat out on the deck was the perfect escape from D.C. that I needed after a long week of work. Sitting on the dock on the waterfront while drinking margaritas felt like we had driven out of the city for vacation. The food was excellent (especially their burgers!). I would be careful when ordering the firecracker calamari, they are not lying, it is VERY spicy! After a few margaritas and a few hours of great conversation I realized what an oasis Cantina Marina can be when wanting to escape the stressful city atmosphere.
