Editorial Review for Westville – by Allison Austin
The Scene
Neighbors have warmly embraced this big-city version of a small-town cafe, with its tile floor, closely spaced tables and low-key air--it's packed nightly. Easy laughter and boisterous conversation spill through the open front doors, where small groups wait for their turn.
The Food
The restaurant does fine business dishing out down-home plates of Niman Ranch organic hot dogs and charred corn with finger-licking cumin-lime-cotija cheese smothered on top, but the expertly grilled salmon on mixed greens, tossed with a perky mint-lemon-dill dressing, is surprisingly excellent. As are the daily "Westville Market" sides--beets with toasted walnuts, fresh asparagus and the like. Everything is indulgent and satisfying in a "Mom made it" way, from the BLT with thick bacon and probably too much mayo, to the blueberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream.

Insider Tips
When to GoIt's easily one of the best bargain brunches in the West Village. French toast is just $5, baked eggs and turkey hash is $6, and all the hot dogs, burgers and salads are available, too.
The ExtrasThe neighborhood's shady streets are perfect for an after-dinner stroll. And be sure to stop by Magnolia Bakery, another small-townish spot in the West Village, for a cute cupcake.

I love that Westville has all these small plates you can put together - every time I go I get the mac and cheese (SO GOOD), and a bunch of vegetables. Sometimes the vegetables are amazing, and sometimes they aren't good. The bok choy is really good - but depending on the cook can be way too salty. Anyway, it's almost always delicious, and if one part isn't that great, it's only 4 bucks down the drain. Really, really small place. I like it - it's cute. You just have to be prepared to wait for a while...
