What People Are Saying About Westville

Featured Review

West Villagers embrace this big-city version of a small-town cafe for casual meals eaten in-house or taken out. Though you might find yourself cursing the placement of the bathroom behind the kitchen, the friendly staff and a comprehensive menu of reasonably priced fare more than make up for the challenge of dodging cooks on the way to the john. Simple salads, burgers and hot dogs are solid choices for lunch or dinner, as are slightly more sophisticated specials like trout. The bevy of neighborhood regulars prove that the low-key affair of dining here is worth the wait, even on weekends, when…

Editor's Tips

When to Go:
It's easily one of the best bargain brunches in the West Village. French toast is just $5, baked eggs and turkey hash is $6, and all the hot dogs, burgers and salads are available, too.
The Extras:
The neighborhood's shady streets are perfect for an after-dinner stroll. And be sure to stop by Magnolia Bakery, another small-townish spot in the West Village, for a cute cupcake.
Save Money:
Try a platter of four market vegetable sides from a selection of roughly 20 for only $15.
The Extras:
Unlike typical restaurants on the cheaper end, this one takes credit cards.
Know Before You Go:
If you're not a West Villager, try its sister on the other side of town, Westville East.
ambiance
100.0% positive
  1. the service was on point, and the atmosphere was nice.
  2. Bit of a wait, of course, but I did love the atmosphere - kitschy, homey - kinda like a very hip Martha Stuart kitchen (but not in a bad way).
  3. amazing menu--the specials were to die for (I ordered the pork loin with pears and apples), relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, and affordable prices.
  4. Its a fun place to go, very cozy, and worth the wait!
  5. Appetizers are fun to share-- corn-on-the-cob sprinkled with feta cheese and homemade curly mac & cheese.
  6. We waited for about 15 minutes and then were seated in the cozy restaurant.
dessert
100.0% positive
  1. As for deserts, the brownie sundae with mint chocolate chip ice cream will not disappoint.
  2. wonderful fresh vegi-sides and desserts that are so yummy.
  3. Ivy's chocolate cake w choc ganache frosting is too good for words.
  4. great food, service and the best chocolate cake i've tasted in a long time!
  5. They have the best carrot cake--so smooth and moist with silky cream cheese frosting.
  6. Love the vegetgable sides, great burgers and dogs, and the desserts are killer!

  1. Fish sandwich with homemade tartar sauce is a good go-to dish as well as the turkey burger, it's incredibly moist and served on the perfect little roll.
  2. While the entrees were pricey for homey food it's well worth it!
  3. Also delicious is the teriyaki salmon, and the plate of 4 sides dishes (who doesn't love geting up to four sides - it is often one of our two entrees!)
  4. One of the few places I can order a rare burger for delivery and it comes rare (try accomplishing that with BLT Burger for instance,) and at a fraction of the price of other neighborhood options.
  5. The veggies are delicious too!
  6. the cheese burger is delicious, all the ingredients are quality from the meat to the english muffin bun.
  7. Delightfully delicious healthy food in a perfect little restaurant
  8. wonderful fresh vegi-sides and desserts that are so yummy.
  9. don't know about other reviews, but the service and food were awesome.
  10. Love the vegetgable sides, great burgers and dogs, and the desserts are killer!
  11. You can do no better in the West Village for the measly $ you're going to drop on the terrific food here.
  12. They also have some "nicer" dishes like the salmon or swordfish that are amazing.
  13. the shoestring fries are tasty and plenty and the dill dressing is perfect on the spring greens salad.
  14. did try the turkey burger but I wasn't wowed but I liked the Portuguese muffin it came on.
  15. great food
  16. I've gone several times and never had a bad meal, and it's WAY easier on the wallet than anywhere else of comparable quality.
  17. This place has a great menu of comfort food and new favorites from smoky mac n' cheese to homemade oreo's (a MUST!)
  18. suspect the burgers are really good (at least it looked that way) as is everything else.
  19. great food, service and the best chocolate cake i've tasted in a long time!
  20. my girlfriend and i ordered much more than we should've and our meal ended up being mostly greens because we planned poorly, but the salads were also excellent.
  21. amazing menu--the specials were to die for (I ordered the pork loin with pears and apples), relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, and affordable prices.
  22. have the hardest time finding a place that has an awesome burger and fries.
  23. have been a loyal patron of Westville for years because of their amazing turkey burger --all white meat, and served on a portuguese muffin.
  24. called to order dinner and asked to add on fries for a dollar.
  25. We had mac and cheese as appetizers and everything was delicious.
  26. Decent food but OH SO RUDE
  27. do love their Mac & Cheese (with or without bacon).
  28. Market plates are fresh and innovative too.
  29. certainly the smallest steak in town to the point that we had to laugh out loud when we were served a portion + food is really not bad, especially the vegetable sides.
  30. had great pork chops with sauteed mushrooms and my friend had a lemon pepper chicken salad sandwich.
  31. Whether I'm coming in for lunch, dinner, or brunch on the weekend - I'm guarenteed to have a great meal with very prompt and friendly service.
  32. Great food, and awesome prices.
  33. Went for brunch last weekend, friends had yummy 'egg scrambles' and I had a very fresh and tasty turkey burger.
  34. The pies and cobblers are homemade and perfectly done, the mac and cheese is amazing, even the steak sandwich is perfectly cooked and tender.
  35. The steak sandwich is delicious and the brunch menu looked really good.
  36. Had a horrible fish fry there -- the fish, although fried, was soggy, and the fries were not very tasty.
  37. great burger
  38. Good food.
  39. Started with smoked mac n cheese w bacon, then the lamb sausage sandwich and my friend had a GREAT burger (as opposed to a greasy buger from the over-rated corner bistro).
  40. So if its comfort your looking for this is not the place; however, if you want good food at a reasonable price, then this is the place.
  41. Their market sides are always delicious and are a great value.
  42. The food is that good.
  43. The food is consistently very good, but the waits have grown longer.
  44. ate here for the first time and have to say it's the best burger and fries I've had in NYC.
  45. this was seriously one of the best turkery burgers.
  46. The salmon is also great, as is the french toast.

This Little Piggy Went to the Market!!

by LivRyan

You must get the market plate! Over 20 vegetarian small plate options that rivals any vegetarian restaurant. I used to just go here for brunch, but now I will only get the market plate. I love the bok choy, brussel sprouts, collard greens, cauliflower, sweet potato fries. The list goes on and on. Small price to pay for some of the best veggie options around. Grab a friend and get eating!

Westville in the East Vill

by prlgirl , Citysearch Contributor

Why o why can't these places be on the Upper East Side! I love this place. Went for a drink on Ave A recently and saw the crowd gathered outside the Westville so had to see what all the buzz was about. We waited for about 15 minutes and then were seated in the cozy restaurant. We ordered shakes, hot dogs and hamburgers. Comfort food at its best. The hot dogs and fries were well done as requested and delicious. It also came with a market side, we selected beets and goat cheese. Oddly, the beets were heated up to the point of steaming once they arrived which made for a weird texture. But then our burger arrived and all was forgiven. It was deliciousness on an english muffin. We were too full for dessert despite how great it all looked! Definitely going back for seconds.Great!

What happened to the fries?!?!

by nev81

I have been a loyal patron of Westville for years because of their amazing turkey burger --all white meat, and served on a portuguese muffin. I have the hardest time finding a place that has an awesome burger and fries...and it seems I've lost the one restaurant that had both. I don't want to be dramatic, but I'm Irish, and there are few potatoes that I will snub. These new coated fries have lost big points with me and my circle of friends. Please bring the old fries back! We loved them!

  • Pros: Turkey Burger
  • Cons: Fries

My Go-To

by Hannahrsteadman

I get Westville anytime I want to eat out but don't want to do an expensive shi-shi dinner. It is super cheap and DELICIOUS. Brunch, lunch or dinner, they are all good. I actually regret wanting to add to the hype because its already over crowded for being such a cute tiny hole in the wall, but I usually just order in anyway. You can't go wrong with any of the burgers or mac 'n cheese. They also have some "nicer" dishes like the salmon or swordfish that are amazing. The veggies are delicious too! Good luck deciding what to get, thats the worst part of eating there.

  • Pros: Delicious, Amazing music if you dine-in
  • Cons: trying to decide what to order is tough, it all looks great
