Editorial Review for Opening Ceremony – by Angela Gaimari

In Short
The coolest of the indie labels for men and women are housed in this high-ceilinged, chandeliered purple space. Every year, the owners pick a region and stock 15 emerging labels from said locale. The best-sellers during the year carry over into the next, so look for hit-labels from Hong Kong, Brazil and Germany from years past. Can't miss Brits include Alexandre Herchcovitch's beautifully loud-printed dresses and Rachel Comey's men's dress shirts and cashmere sweater dresses. Don't forget to check out the store's eponymous label, designed by store owners Humberto Leon and Carol Lim.

Insider Tips

When To Go

There's a small upstairs TopShop outpost in the loft space, where stock is refreshed every three weeks. It flies off the shelves almost as fast as it's put out, so call to see when the next shipment is coming.

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

Come here for truly unique cutting edge clothing. Many of the items they carry are unique to them and if not hard if not impossible to find, I purchased a Nike Tech Pack jacket that can't be bought anywhere else, not even Nike (I tried). The help is very friendly however I recommend consulting them on sizes unless they have a clear unstanding of your style or what you are looking for.

Pros: Truely unique clothing way ahead of the curve

Cons: Unfortunately you get what you pay for.

2 Star Rating: Below Average

I think it is trying too hard to be uber fashion, while most of it is just uber ugly. the idea of changing cities is cool but please offer some wearable duds.

Pros: The unique selection

Cons: the unique selection
