DO NOT TAKE SHOES TO BE DYED HERE!!!! – I took a pair of white Jimmy Choo pumps to be dyed blue I asked if they could advise if dyeing was possible on these shoes and I told them I would not have them dyed if it was not. Three people at the 55th and 5th location looked at my shoes and said it would not be a problem at all. I paid them $55 and picked up my shoes only to find that the dye was not retainable so now the shoes are not wearable because my feet end up blue every time I walk a little distance in them and if I come into contact with any water the shoes run blue dye all over the floor. I called the store and asked them to make the shoes colorfast and they told me that that was not possible and that their store policies protected them from having any accountability. The man specifically said to me
Excellent Service!!! – FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! I brought my shoes, purses and belts to Leather Spa and everything came back better than when I first purchased them. Anyone who is writing these negative reviews is clearly insane and doesn't appreciate the work that goes into such phenomenal service and quality. There is a reason why ALL the major leather and shoe companies have them as their designated repair company. If you had a bad experience, my recommendation is to open your mouth next time instead of cowarding online and bashing these people. FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Guess I'll have to find another place... – As I read these reviews, it is very sad. I came here to double-check the address of this business. I too used to come here as I'd heard they were considered one of the best places in the city, and while I don't have any specific horror stories, I too noticed that the overall service wasn't what it used to be. First off, it seems everyone there now is Latin and speaks limited English. Which certainly doesn't help matters if at the same time, you aren't getting quality work done. And what are you to do when you encounter workmanship problems, and again, the staff only speak limited English?
It's a real shame as this just seems to be one more art (shoe repair) that is slowly dying. There are so few TRUE cobblers left in the city!
By the way...I hope those of you that had service issues with them are reporting it to the Better Business Bureau!
Just terrible – Since this place moved across the street and became a “Leather Spa” the quality and service went down precipitously.
Though it prices went up.
Brought in two pairs of Lanvin flats to get the soles done. Cannot even describe what I got back! Let’s just say a shoemaker at Penn Station would have done a better job. Had to take my shoes to another repair place and for an additional cost to have them fixed.
Terrible place! Will never go back!
Abysmal...hopeless, abusive. – Shoe Service Plus, also known as Leather Spa, deserves negative stars but that is not an option here on citysearch. The owner actually yelled at me after he admitted they ruined my boots. It is shocking. Do they really have so many loyal customers/suckers willing to pay top dollar only to pray their items are not damaged? I say, support your local cobbler, save your big bucks, and go elsewhere. Really, I have never ever been treated so hatefully in my life.
Hatefull staff, terrible service – An insult to shoe lovers everywhere. I was accused of lying and not recognizing my own shoes. The staff is insane, and the owner is worst of all. Do not go to this viper pit under any circumstances. The owner actually yelled at me after his establishment ruined my shoes, which he admitted. All the years of catering to the Blahnik set have gone to his head.
Disgusting customer service, belligerent owner – I'm in the process of having a mistake corrected by this formerly highly-rated shoe repair shop. I will write a complete review when I see how it's resolved. For now I can say: accusatory staff (aside from Luis), and the owner is far worse than the worst staffer. I guess it trickles down. Save your money and the heartache and support your local cobbler! This place is a disaster.
Terrible, Ruined My Shoes – This company has some of the worst service I've ever encountered in New York. I cannot urge anyone reading this enough not to ever do business with them. I brought in two of my favoritte pairs of men's shoes to get re-heeled. The shoes had natural, un-painted (shoe-blacked) leather soles and I requested specifically that they not paint the leather and leave it natural. I got the shoes back and they had ignored my request and painted the shoes which ruins them. I asked them to sand the paint back off and two weeks later when I returned they hadn't done it. I asked the very rude manager to please give me back my money and he refused. Now after wasting hours at their shop I'm doing to have to file a dispute with my credit card money to get a refund so I can try and get someone else to fix them. Leather Spa was repeatedly rude and belligerent with me. They ruined my shoes and stole my money. If you have anything you care about I urge you to save yourself the grief of being ignored and go somewhere else.
Stay far away from this place! – I have also gone to Shoe Service Plus which is now called Leather Spa for many years and had good results but for the past year, they have messed up everything I taken to them. A week ago I dropped off a bag from Marc Jacobs that needed to have a broken zipper pull replaced. I brought them a new pull that I had gotten from Marc Jacobs but when I picked they had used a different one that didn't fit and was a different color gold. They also put the pull on backwards so the Marc Jacobs name faces the bag! I am so mad because now I have to go back there again tomorrow and figure out why they would do such a thing. They had my name and number, they should have called me to ask if it was ok before they put this piece of junk on my bag. I will never go to them again. They charge very high prices, are rude and do shoddy work. The worst part is that they don't even care that they do bad work! I am telling everyone I know to stay away from this place! They make me so mad!
I have to start looking for new shoe repair shop :( – I used to be a customer for years at the old location before they moved to a nicer bigger shop across the street called "Leather Spa" at 10 55th street.
Unfortunately, the old place craftsmanship didn't come along :(
First time I brought my Stewart Weitzman flip-flops , they possibly, spilt some glue over them and as they were trying to clean it up, they removed color in spots. Although, I was told to pay $ 35 for a messy job I wasn't too bent out of shape 'cause I paid only $100 for those flip-flops. I never used to have problems at these people before so I brought my $700 Giuseppe Zanotti booties for heel tip's replacement.
They cracked one heel. When I pointed it out to a guy with name tag "Louise" he said he can't do anything about it! I asked him to write on my receipt that I received my heels cracked. He hesitated for a minute then wrote: "scratched heel" after he cursed me out in spanish to his coworkers. Then he told another guy (in English, this time louder, so I could hear) to never take shoes from me again! Don't you worry, never again! I'm sick in my stomach!
One question: Where do they get all this confidence from?
