Editorial Review for J Sisters International – by Sandra Ramani
The Scene
Located in a turn-of-the-century Vanderbilt townhouse on 57th Street, J.Sisters--founded and run by seven actual siblings from Brazil--made its name over 10 years ago with top-notch manicures and pedicures. Over time, the salon added a second floor of treatment rooms and an expanded spa menu, including facials, body wraps and massage.
The Services
Most of the press and word-of-mouth on the J.Sisters Salon has been centered around its infamous Brazilian bikini wax, a favorite of celebs and regular folk alike. (Not for the weak of heart. Let's just say this service gives new meaning to the phrase "a shave and a haircut.") The salon is also home to an excellent team of hair stylists and colorists, some of whom have even developed a J.Sisters line of haircare products.

This has to to be one of the best waxing places out there. I've been to numerous high profile and low profile places and I always end up coming back to J. Sisters. The technicians are thorough and nice, esp. LuLu. There isn't a stray hair left. Loves it!
Pros: Thorough, clean and no stray hairs!
Cons: It is expensive, but just get your boyfriend to pay it!

Today I waited with my friend for our 4:00 pedicure appointment for 50 minutes until she finally had to leave in order to make a previously scheduled hair appointment at 6:00. We were told that our pedicures would be at least an hour and mine lasted exactly 35 minutes. The technician was extremely rushed and not thorough. There was no foot massage, the water was cold, and she did not put a top coat on my toe nails, leaving them dull and partly chipped an hour later. I had to ask her to remove additional calluses and use lotion after the polish had already been done. In addition, the color choices were almost laughably limited! I wasn't given an opportunity to address these issues because the front desk closed and I was left in a room almost by myself while the workers in the salon went home. I was looking forward to this experience and am shocked that the service certainly did not warrant the price ($67). This was worse than my neighborhood $20 manicure/pedicure combo.
