What People Are Saying About Suenos

The Owner

Suenos

Owner

A really good dream transports you to another world where every discovery is captivating and delightful. So it is with Suenos, which means "dreams" in Spanish.

Suenos reflects Executive Chef/Owner Sue Torres' love of all things Mexican. From the decor, to the selection of tequilas, to the insistence on a true cocinera, or tortilla lady, working on a comal in the main dining room, Torres pays homage to the centuries of tradition that have woven together Mexico's flavors and ingredients. The menu's dishes reflect Torres' understanding of the country's regional diversity as well as her classical culinary training.

Award-winning beverage consultant Steve Olsen, assisted in the creation of a special tequila and mezcal list, featuring many small artisanal producers. The wine selection offers perfect pairings with Torres' dishes, while signature cocktails complete the festive setting.

In Short
Down a little alley and past the overflowing, convivial front bar area, the dining room glows in shades of peach, fuchsia and tangerine. Plush booths surround a glassed-in terrarium, adding a bit of air and spectacle to a space that might otherwise feel cramped. The dense, salty guacamole is absolutely superlative; a fava bean and goat cheese empanada is a light and delicious starter. Goat chunks, steamed to implausible tenderness in beer and coated with a thick, smoky spice rub make a memorable entree, as do enchiladas filled with roasted chicken and squash blossoms and topped with a light-but-rich pumpkin-seed sauce.

Hits: This gentle updating of Mexican cooking is very friendly to the palate, though some dishes weigh a bit heavy on the stomach.

Misses: When it's crowded, the staff gets harried, which can take a toll on the dining experience at peak hours.

Went with a large group of people. Chef came out to say hello and ask how our food was. Service was excellent. Food was very flavorful. Cozy room with a skylight.

My friends have been bugging me to go to Suenos for a while and I finally got there recently. Delicious food that tasted very fresh and cooked perfectly. Drinks were also excellent as was the waitress we had that night. Definitely recommended

Didn't think the food was really impressive - it was not horrible, but nothing special. Ordered the baby spinach and the hanger steak . Both were pretty forgettable. Didn't really enjoy the ambiance or service either. The service wasn?t so good as I thought. This place has definitely been on my list of places to go for a while, glad I can finally check it off! Won't be going back - too many better places in town.
