Tompkins Square Bakery

Fresh Pastries, Wedding & Speciality Cakes

Finally, the warm and comforting smell of the small-town bakery everyone grew up with (or wanted to) has drifted through the streets of the East Village. Located across from Tompkins Square Park, the bakery caters to customers who select from an array of delightful, fresh morning pastries, including huge buttery croissants, light and fluffy muffins in a variety of seasonal flavors, gigantic cookies (most for $1.00!), and rich, velvety brownies. But the real surprise is the impressively hand crafted specialty cakes and beautifully detailed wedding cakes, which passers-by can glimpse in the front window. The work of up-and-coming artists and photographers decorate the walls, adding to the local appeal. Ideal for a quick breakfast of pastries on the go, accompanied by hot coffee or homemade hot chocolate, and a sure bet for your next party or wedding cake order

Cakes, cookies, ice cream, pastries galore! I have a hard time choosing what to get everytime I step into this bakery. The selection is great and the prices are just right. The staff is very helpful and friendly. I'm always excited for an excuse to come here and always a little sad when I have to leave

Pros: always fresh,staff

I came to this website to find a good bakery for a special birthday cake for a friend, my regular bakery -Amy's Bread did not make the type of cake I wanted. First the bakery itself is extremely unsanitary and there are people coming in and out going behind the counter, etc. I ordered a simple two layer cake ($60), when I picked it up it looked wonderful, however when the cake was cut later at my friend's birthday party it turned out to be overcooked and hard as a brick on the bottom of both layers, also the "buttercream" frosting tasted more like just butter with no sweetness whatsoever, the cake was inedible and the majority was thrown away. To put it mildly I was embarassed and it definitely ruined my friend's special day. Please do not patronize this place, I am not sure what these other posters here experienced, but my friends and I had one HORRIBLE experience.....never again!

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Storefront is dirty, baked goods are horrible
