The Thannhauser Collection Editorial Review
The Flowers of Friendship
Uncontrolled passion informed Picasso's sublime vision of the world, and that feeling radiates from the epicenter of this eclectic display. Composed of paintings, drawings and watercolors, this impressive array of artwork is partially the result of a lasting friendship between the intrepid painter-sculptor and his German patron Justin K. Thannhauser. (Thannhauser's gift to the museum of 73 works features 32 by the legendary artist.)
In Good Company
Viewing still life compositions from the blue period or cubist depictions of people, places and things, you may be surprised at how sedating the great agitator Picasso can seem. (The standout in the collection is his "Le Moulin de la Galette," a painting that takes on the lifestyles of France's rich and famous.) Other notables represented include Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne, Vincent Van Gogh and Eduoard Vuillard. Georges Seurat's pencil and crayons on paper reflect intimate moments of less demanding times.
