The Scene
A brightly painted mural and exposed kitchen lend this tiny space an airy feel. If you don't get a table, grab a seat at the counter, right next to the cherry-red Jesus figurine perched atop the soda fridge. Waiters are friendly and quick on their feet and seem to know half the clientele.
The Food
Shaped like pita bread, only thicker and made of corn, the arepas here are generously stuffed with a variety of fillings. Start simple, with black beans or one of three cheeses, then move on to something more adventurous, like portobello and tofu, or a zesty tuna salad. The standout is the delectable stewed meat and plantains, even tastier with a splash of homemade hot sauce. Deep-fried empanadas have fewer filling options, but are big enough for a meal. Save room for the tres leches cake, crowned with dollops of browned meringue.

Coming from Venezuela I thought I'd eat a very tasty cachapa [a pancake made out of corn], but it wasn't really the same. This one was a watered-down version of it that fell apart as I picked it up. But I gave them props for having it in the U.S. since it's quite hard to make it over here anyway. I do have to mention that the food is way overpriced though. For such a small arepa I had to pay $6.50. And the so called cachapa was almost $10, or more. Their water was warm, sometimes they took forever to refill the cup, and if they did, once again it was lukewarm water! On top of that they took forever to bring the food. The place is really small. You literally sat next to each other. But nevertheless it's cozy and welcoming. I'd go back again, once I made some more money. And just because I don't know any other Venezuelan restaurants in the city...

I've been going to this place for the last five years. Love their food. They have a new manager and host that has no idea how to manage nor host a place. I cannot believe somebody like this guy can work in such a great place like this.

My Venezuelan friend hipped me to this joint, and I go whenever I can. Delicious, delicious arepas, yummy other stuff too. Get the white hard cheese--it's the best. If only it were on the UWS!

What to Drink:
Caracas offers a small selection of beer and wine or try papelon con limon, a sugary (but refreshing) lime drink.
Know Before You Go:
The sampler plate is a good way to try the fillings, though its nugget-sized arepas don't dip very well. Be brave and order a whole arepa.
When To Go:
Though the main dining room opens at 5:30pm on weekdays, the to-go section starts serving at 12pm.
