“This is a fun place to grab an authentic Venezuelan dish.”
“The waitress/hostess seemed a bit sad when we told her we weren't ordering dessert (those arepas are deceptively filling!)”
“did love the camburada drink which was a banana shake w/ cinnamon.”
“Arepa and Empanads are delicious but to pay over $6.50 for pabellon is nuts.”
“There is a nice variety of arepa sandwiches, from vegetarian to beef.”
“Arepas are always good and this place beats waiting for one from a dirty shack in a corner of Caracas.”
“The waitress/hostess seemed a bit sad when we told her we weren't ordering dessert (those arepas are deceptively filling!)”
“But if you want good food at a good price, then definitely check it out.”
“It is a very casual place that's perfect for a quick lunch.”
Amazing!. went last night for the first time, had the Arepa w. Avocado, cheese and platanos -- one word YUM! Highly recommended.
Best tasting fast food.. My friend had introduced this place to me. We waited probably 4 minutes to get a table for two. The place was a cramped getting to the table. The vibe was exciting, alot of conversation and different types of people. europeans, latin americans, and your average downtown new york grabbing a bite. You can easily order two arepas if your hungry, it was the right savory taste. The cheese they used is fresh. Im definitely a fan of fresh ingredients and good service, which is what we got. Im headed there tonight with the boyfriend.....
Excellent catering. If you want to have a very special party at home, beautiful and "sabrosa" call Caracas Arepa Bar. I did
Great food; Expensive for what it is.. Arepa and Empanads are delicious but to pay over $6.50 for pabellon is nuts. Also, $5 for a glass of Chicha is way overpriced. Food is great but prices are high. I would say stay home and make the arepas yourself. Just as easy and much cheaper.
Great service and menu. A Venezuelan must! The brunch here is fabulous. I'm sure the to go is good too! The restaurant is tiny though so be prepared to wait!
Yummy Food with Awesome Sauce. This tiny place that amazes with its edibles. The arepas are so good, but the best part is the sauce they have to put on top of them. Problem is you often leave smelling like a french fry, but for myself it is worth it. Careful on weekends, you will have to wait for a table during prime dinner hours.
terrible service. I've been here once before and loved the food and service. I live in the neighborhood and frequent the restaurants in East Village. I took an out of town guest to this place and not only was the staff rude, but our 15 min. wait turned into an hour. Four parties who showed up after us ate before us. We were a party of 3 and figured that the tables open were 2 tops. Then a couple with a toddler ( who came in 10 mins. after us) were seated before us. When a table opened big enough for 3 adults, we thought finally we would be able to sit down. Instead, the couple with the small child were reseated from a smaller table to the larger table, and we were squished to a table barely enough for 2. When we asked the woman who seated us if the couple had made prior reservations, she replied no. When we addressed the fact that they arrived after us, she replied that if we are not happy with the table we should leave. We lost our appetite and left. There are too many good restaurants in New York I will never go back to a rude staff.
Arepa hunting. how to put this simply? Arepas here are delicious - they come out crispy and stuffed with whatever filling you asked for. I've looked around the city for some good arepas - and most places have fallen short, but Caracas has kept me coming back. the one downside (and it can be a major one) - is the wait. oh the wait can be painful - but i try to only bring one friend per trip so we can score bar seats. overall - when i have my mind on arepas - i will soldier on till i'm sitting somewhere in the restaurant, but if i'm not craving - i'll head out to good ol' st. marks for different fare.
never again. i was embarrassed bringing my boyfriend here. I remembered coming to the takeout bar before the restaurant part opened and i enjoyed the service and food but last Saturday we both were not treated well by the female waitress. We ordered the appetitizer, which never came even after finishing our hard arepas and it turned out that she forgot to order it even though that was the first item we ordered. We felt uncomfortable sitting in the dim restaurant and worsely we felt ignored. i will not come here again.
Best Arepas. There is a wait... you will get served quickly and service is friendly. If you like arepas with more than just cheese in it..this is the place to be.
