Great drinks & awesome food. Me and a couple buddies decided to go and were very pleasntly surprised. The server was awesome and friendly. He honored our 2 for 1drink specials even after 8pm. The food was surpisingly really good, who knew a lounge could have great food. Drinks were strong enough to give me a buzz, so that was good. I loved the decor, it had a very modern and "sex-in-the-city" feel to it.
What Happened to Therapy???.
This used to be the most beautiful boy bar in Hell's Kitchen. Tastefully done and spacious and you just felt cool.
Not anymore.
The new flow of space is an improvement both downstairs and up and especially at the bars and the new booths... but the level of taste is absolutely dreadful.
Strange mauves, greens and blues in a bar that used to be minimal with beautiful wood tones. Now they've got golden fleur de lis wall sconces and see-through purple fleur de lis cocktail tables all topped with oversized martini glasses filled with cocktail kibble. No lie...
Not to mention the Haunted House style flickering orange candles placed in the strange new lighting fixture above the downstairs bar. It's a completely slap-dash, cheap-looking, Trading Spaces redesign. I can't believe they ruined this beautiful spot.
Is this the West Village in 1990?
Therapy Is good for everyone who needs it!.
After an unpleasant evening at another local Hells Kitchen Bar, this was such a nice place to hang out and get great drinks with great friendly service, The bar was very nicely air conditioned which is very hard to find in NY. The bar was so refreshing and the bartenders were so happy to be there and serve me!
This is my new favorite spot!
great space and cute crowd, nasty service.
I used to be a big fan of Therapy years ago and routinely recommended it as the best gay bar in NYC because of the decor, the after-work professional vibe (compared to the model/waiter/i-banker looking for a toy vibe at G and XL), and the location, but the service was always lacking.
One of the groups I belong to had its holiday party there last week and a good party ended on a very sour note because of a bartender. After having bought 7 drinks and tipping $2-4 for each drink, I was a bit drunk and on the last round of three drinks was busy talking, gave the bartender, by credit card and absently forgot to include a tip. My friends and I lingered a bit as we picked up our drinks. The bartender said 'you need to move'. I said 'give us a sec' and he retorted 'this space is for people who tip, and you don't tip'. Lack of customer service, grace, or a memory aside, this isn't good business.
Pretty cool. This is probably the best looking gay bar in NYC. Maybe HK caught up. Love the big communal table downstairs, bathroom is never an issue. Bar access sometimes a problem. Crowd is usually good but sometimes is dead when you wouldn't think it would be.
Great drinks, extremely classy place.. The crowd here is very attractive, successful, everything you want in a man. A fun place to go with friends.
Stay out of the bathroom!. Therapy is a great place to meet friends and have a few drinks. the bartenders are HOT! definately affordable and has a great dimly lit atmosphere, a little bit of what XL was just not as pretentious.
Heaven in Hell ('s Kitchen).
I have been to many different bars all over the world, and I can honestly say that therapy ranks high on my list. It's just a generally "cool" and "chill" place to unwind, and relax with friends; the atmosphere is very friendly, and the drinks are ok (nothing amazing though).
On weekends, it's especially nice, but can sometimes get a bit crowded.
If you're looking to dance 'til you drop, or hook up, this is NOT the place for you. But if you want a laid-back, relaxing, trendy watering hole to enjoy good music and great people, then Therapy is a MUST!
Boring boring boring. For a similar experience, go to a corporate party.. Therapy - such a disappointment. Very cool space, very un-cool crowd. The people there seem to THINK they're cool, but I'd like to assure them all that there's nothing cool about having "attitude". Boring boring boring.
you need therapy if you waste your time here. BORING midtown bar with additude. The best thing that could happen to this place is chapter 11. How it has lasted this long is amazing. Don't waste your time or money, too many gay bars in manhattan to be dragged down by this one.
