Editorial Review for Some Odd Rubies – by Sandra Ramani

The Scene
Stop by this pretty boutique and chances are you'll find one, if not all three, of its owners--actress Summer Phoenix; Odessa Whitmire, former assistant to A-list stars; and Ruby Canner, childhood pal of Phoenix's--in residence, chatting to customers or re-arranging the antique display cases. Despite the multiple celeb connections, the shop has a welcoming, neighborhood vibe; if not for the displayed press clippings, clients might not even realize who the girls are.

The Goods
Re-worked and updated vintage and thrift pieces from all across the country, with a few new items thrown in. Goods can be tailored to fit, and things from your own closet can also be re-designed. Accessories include Joji bags, made from limited-edition fabrics, Nathan and Mo jewelry and textured silver pieces from Hector Javier.

I have to say I LOVE the clothes they have here. Beautiful prints, well designed updates, my only complaint is the quality of the stitching. I found a dress here that was a little too big but so gorgeous that I decided to get it anyway. The first day I wore the dress I was out with friends when the strap that tied around the neck separated from the right side of the dress, leaving me pretty much exposed. Quickly I tied it together and it looked ok enough to wear for the rest of the night. On the way home the left side broke as well. I still love the dress and have since fixed the problem but for $300+ I shouldn't have had to. Very hesitant to shop there again or recommend to friends.
