I totally loved the core fusion classes here -- really great instructors -- and I would come back just for them. However, the spa side and front desk/admin side has been very stressful and on this side of unprofessional. I'm undecided about going back.
I've been going to spas in NYC for years, so I know the drill. I even read the reviews on Exhale just so I know what to expect here. What they say is true, both the good and the bad. The staff here has no idea how to deal with pricing and specials. For one of my treatments, I called ahead to confirm that my voucher applied before even making the appointment (albeit this was at the CPS location). I mentioned my voucher again at check-in, and of course when I was checking out, they told me it didn't apply. What a way to ruin the entire experience of relaxation to have to haggle over the method of payment, especially since I had verified it both before making the appointment and before showing up. Then another time, I went to purchase a package of treatments. The woman at the desk was so sweet but very very slow. By the time she had the right info up on her screen, I had to run off to class, but I told her I'd come back after class (1 hr) to pay. When I came back, she wasn't there, but someone else was. By the time she figured out how to pull the info up on the screen, my package was about $100 more expensive. She refused to honor the price that was quoted to me just an hour before. Pretty ridiculous and another relaxing experience ruined. And when my promo ran out, it turned out that if I attended 4+ classes during my "week of transformation", I would be entitled to getting one free class with the purchase of a 10-pack. Well, no one told me that when I paid for my week at the beginning, so I just attended 3 classes and was not eligible for the promo. I was already rather unhappy about not receiving all the correct details of my week-long package up front and this was the kicker. Very annoying.
Oh, and I had emailed the UES location several months ago to ask about their classes and never heard back. Also emailed Gramercy and MeatPacking, and also never heard back. Their staff simply doesn't care AT ALL about the clients. If I never had to deal with them, I'd like this place so much more.
For the classes, I would give it 5 stars, but the overall experience with the front desk staff and spa experience is less than 1 star, so I give it a 3 overall (with the inclination to round it down to just 2!!).
Exhale Exudes Excellence. I've been going to Exhale for years. I love the ambience and the cosmeticians and massage therapists. Exhale runs a clean and timely operation. I have found the massage therapists to be knowledgeable and professional. I don't know a thing about the eyebrow service which seems to get so many complaints. But I have never had a bad experience at Exhale. I have taken yoga classes there and there was always plenty of space for each student. I'd say, if you haven't been to this rather unique space, you should give it a try.
Acupuncture/Core Flow/Lash Tint.
I visited the big city for Christmas vacation and had a wonderful experience for acupuncture! I even treated myself to a core flow class which was a nice change from doing pilates. The staff recommended lash tinting after I complained of having thin red lashes. I went for it and it made such huge difference! The only mistake that I made on my part was adding an appointment for brow arching. After my acupuncture appointment I waited in the lobby to be picked up. If you've had acupuncture done you would know that you are as relaxed as if you've had massage. Lo' and behold my buzz was wiped quick-like by a short woman with a bad temper (mumbling obscenities about tips!). I felt the tension in the room build and wondered if I had walked into another business after acupuncture! The woman then yelled at me to "come on!" and follow her. It was Eliza the brow lady! She rushed quickly and became upset because I asked her how she was doing. To top it off she demanded I stop talking and said I had butchered eyebrows. All in all she did a so-so job, I may have got a better deal and shape in Australia.
I wish I had enough time for a facial, maybe next time.
look for the better place to do your eyebrows , don't give up to find the best eyebrow specialist. i was looking for a place to do my eyebrows, i had a big problem, i had no shape, tattoo only. when i came to exhale , to the famous eliza's eyes people, i hoped at least to have some recommendations, but i got hurt by comments about my appearance. it was horrible experience.By my lucky chance ,i found somebody else at the salon Mingle, and it happened to be that i got my eyebrows back with the help of people who care and know how to do it.
*Best Spa Around*. After a long day at work, Exhale is the best place to go. The calming and luxurious atmosphere can put anyone at ease, and the classes, therapies, and manicure pedicures are all amazing. The staff members are some of the most accomodating people I have ever met, and are focused on making your experience a great one. This "mind-body spa" is worth every penny
Great Service Overall.. I went and had the Deep Tissue Massage; I thought it was amazing. When I got there I was asked to fill out paperwork because it was my first time. I then was lead to the back by one of the people behind the desk. He explained where I would find my robe and slippers and showed me the waiting area. Jeleua(who was great by the way), gave me my massage. It was the best massage I have ever had, and I've had many. Afterwards I was led to the lounge. I don't have as many complaints as most people, however, when I was in the relaxation room after my massage, I could hear a yoga class being taught. The ladies room was stocked with anything I could think of wanting. On a scale from 1 to 10. I give it a 9. I'm so glad it's in my neighborhood. I'll definitely be back.
Terrible receptionist service; disappointing overall. Terrible receptionist service (all three of them). They were clueless and unhelpful. Having arrived on time for my appointment, they did not inform the facialist, resulting in me waiting for half an hour. I asked why there was a delay, but they did not check nor did they follow up. At the end, they had the gall to ask for a gratuity. Very disappointing. I would not go back, nor recommend this to others.
Go elsewhere for Spa services.
I went for a basic facial and left with tons of scars and cuts all over my face from the extractions. I don't have sensitive skin and I never worry about my skin being irritated from products. I never thought someone could do this to my face. I've had tons of facials before and I never had this. Its been 4 days and I'm still waiting to see if these cuts will heal and reveal scars or broken capillaries. I'm not bitter or angry. I had no problems with the staff and I said nothing while I was there, but everytime I look in the mirror I'm reminded how bad my experience was.
As a side note: it lacks the "spa experience". They cater more to people attending the classes. The loune is makeshift and noisy and the water and tea that is provided is very poor. I'm not rich or spoiled. I like to treat myself reasonably every so often. Next time I choose to treat myself, I won't waste my money there.
Terrible management and customer service. This is not a spa that cares about customer satisfaction. In spite of being a regular, loyal customer, this spa does little to address the concerns and complaints of its patrons. If it weren't for the excellent yoga instructors (Jude Englins and Isaac Pena) I would never return to this spa, or spend another penny of my money at this place. If you are looking for a place that believes in and practices customer satisfaction, go elsewhere!
I signed up for a 6 am class in core fusion. On the phone, the employee was courteous and helpful and assured me that there was a class, told me who was teaching and assured me there was room in the class.
When I arrived at 6 am today the SPA WAS CLOSED! THE DOOR WAS LOCKED AND NO ONE WAS THERE.
When I called to complain I got little sympathy from the manager on duty. These people are not helpful, as other reviews have said. I would recommend you try a spa where someone is home.
