Terrible service – I haven't eaten here; I just stopped in for drinks a couple of times. Each time the service was worse than the last time. The bartenders print up your bill and give it to you before even serving you your drink. What if you want to have more than one? You're expected to pay for each round before or while you drink it. Who does that? Also, their selection of liquor leaves alot to be desired. We had to wait forever to order a drink because if you're not a friend of the bartender's, good luck trying to get their attention. Once they finally come over to you, they act like they are doing you a huge favor by even talking to you. You're made to feel very unwelcome. On top of everything the owner has publicly complained that people don't tip because her restaurant is uptown. Um, no. People tip for good service; when you don't provide any, you don't get tips. That should "tip" her off that she's doing something really wrong.
Good food, but service is less than stellar – I have been to Mobay on 125th Street several times. I keep going back for the food. It's great to find a soul food restaurant that offers vegetarian entrees (and delicious ones at that). The atmosphere is nice. The last time I went, though, I was not happy at the end of the meal. We received our bill and saw that the gratuity had already been added. I know that most restaurants have a policy regarding large groups, but we were a party of 2! When we inquired about this, we found out that now they automatically add the tip to every bill. I was not happy. I do not appreciate it when restaurants take the liberty of deciding how much you are going to tip. That's not a tip then! I am a generous tipper, but I don't like anyone else deciding for me. The service at Mobay could use lots of improvement and when customers do not have the ability to reward good service with a tip of their choice, poor service continues. Why do the servers need to give better service if they know that they will always get that good tip at the end of the meal...regardless of how lackluster their service is?
Simply Divine! – My husband and I made our first ever trip to Harlem and what a treat to dine at MoBay. We devoured every morsel of the coconut curry salmon and curried goat. The tea left a hint of honey and everything else in between. And oh-my-gosh! What a heavenly beginning with the cornbread and pineapple sauce! It reminded me of my grandmother's cakes when we used to visit her in the Creole French speaking parts of Louisiana. We were graced and honored to meet the chef, however, we wanted to take him back with us to Dallas! We had such a relaxing time; we intend to relocate in the near future. I've told EVERYONE we know; take the A train & stop in at MoBay, for it is truly an experience.
Great food, great wait service, great music – I have dined here several times, each time I bring a new group with me to share this diamond in the rough. The food is excellent, the wait service is great (very friendly) and the music is wonderful (especially the Untouchables). You will not leave this place hungry. It's a little tight in there but that can be solved by making reservations at least two days in advance.
excellent time have lunch – e and my friends want to mobay uptown to have lunch and I and I had to let you know this. it was one of the best experience I had dinning out the waiter very nice and friendly he made the experience wonderful , the food was excellent and the atmosphere is truly relaxing. And There great service and bright personalities. If you're looking for a nice quiet lunch meeting this the restaurant to be the Caribbean Rum Cake was wonderful. And the drinks are great, try the coconut shrimp or the baby back ribs thats what we had and it was of the hook . It will be the best food you've ever had, I have been to a lot restaurant in Harlem and we just keep coming back to mobay I think its only place in Harlem where you can get good food and great atmosphere in one. keep up the good work .
No frills BBQ – We stopped in bt chance. Its a small place but well decorated. I didn't expect much but was pleasantly surpirsed. We ordered Braggin Rights ribs, St. Louis style ribs and brisket. The portions were ample and tasty. They started us out with a corn bread, much fancier than I have ever had, but was delicious. Desert was Death byt Chocolate Cake... excellent way to finish it off. Totally enjoyed the food. Prices are a little expensive for BBQ but again portions were ample.
The only caveat to the meal was the automatic tipping process. I found it to be strange to be automatically charged a tip in the first place, but also for a table of three. It was below what i was going to tip anyhow, but I guess the onwers want to make sure their staff is taken care of. Our waitress was (Jaimee) was very prompt and pleasant...
Fabulous Cat Fish – I am in the process of viewing every Soul Food Restaurant and this one is a Uptown Special when I need to impress my family again. The ambience was inviting but the service was slow. If you go to the Apollo please have dinner after at Mobay's uptown. I ordered food from home at the Brooklyn Mobay's I wasn't to please with it except the Catfish.
I love it! – The food is great, hats off to the chef. Although the drinks are a little pricey, they are well worth it. I recommend reservations, especially at night time and especially on the weekends because it gets really busy. The live music is great! To be such a small restaurant and for it to be so busy I think the the staff does an outstanding job
Umm, Umm,Umm what a fabulous place to dine. – I have been to Mobay's several times and I have not been dissatisfied yet. The ambience is so inviting. Enjoying the company of live music is always a treat and the staff is superb. Sometimes the waiting area can become a little overcrowded but, it is well worth the wait. I love you Mobay's!
