The Scene
The entrance leads into a dim, narrow bar decorated with sake bottles, exposed brick and a beautiful arched wooden ceiling. The dining room alongside is brighter, thanks to a big picture window and glowing yellow orbs of light. A tastefully eclectic mix of music, ranging from Tom Waits to Duke Ellington, entertains locals who seem delighted to have stumbled upon the inconspicuous spot.
The Food
Gourmet twists are given to simple Japanese dishes with even simpler prices. Sesame seeds add a nutty hint to sweet, thinly shredded burdock, while extremely finely diced salmon, avocado, shallots and wasabi combine for a wonderfully textured tartare. Tomato ponzu sauce provides a sweet and spicy punch to cigarillo-sized spring rolls, and a spicy mayo turns rock shrimp tempura into a Japanese spin on Cajun popcorn. The tasting-sized portions are especially convenient for a quick bite before an East Village barhop.

extremely extremely rude. bad bad business. 30 dollars minimum per person. which is totally ok. the waiter came to us and forced us to order 50 dollars more because we didn't exceed 30 per person. we asked him 5 TIMES to make sure if he didn't miscalculate. he was getting upset we were asking him too many times. we didn't want to eat more at this point. we found out later we were totally over $30 per person when the waiter FORCED us to order more. the bill came up to 53 dollars per person. they FORCED us to order more food and FORCED to pay for it. what kind of restaurant is this? we tried to talk to the manager but she told us to shut up. TRUE STORY. 9 of us were there. we couldn't believe these people. 9 of us and our friends are NEVER EVER GOING to this place. POOR SERVICE. POOR business mind. total sadness.

I love this place! I live on the block and try to make it at least twice/ month. Everything I have eaten here has been wonderful. I have never been rushed but they do tend to get a bit nervous if you take a while to order. I love the filet and the tartare. Definitely a place to try.

I have been to this restaurant several times, and while the food is good, my experience this evening was very negative and I do not plan to return. The manager was incredibly rude and passive aggressive and it turned me off to kasadela for good.
