The Scene – Downtown's club of the moment closely resembles the apartment everyone wishes for. Pristine hardwood floors, Eames chairs and chocolate-brown leather couches combine for a mod appeal. A raised VIP section gives 10 banquettes a bird's-eye view over the dance floor, as well as a fast-track entrance into the sleek space. The crowd--a mix of music industry insiders such as Stretch Armstrong and members of the Roots and Sugar Hill Gang, glossy fashion types and Williamsburg hipsters--mingles seamlessly. – – The Draw – While the club does have a velvet rope, the…
Editor's Tips
- Save Time:
- Be sure to book the club at least a month in advance for private parties.
- Know Before You Go:
- The staff may be friendly, but looks still count. Avoid such fashion no-nos as beat-up sneaks.
- Save Money:
- Coat check is $2 per item, so avoid the layered look and think minimal when dressing for the night out.

This place really sucks!
by Melrod1213 at Citysearch
First of all, I would like to say that you could not even pay me to go back to this place. The beers are expensive, the manager or owner whoever (Indian guy) is rude and unprofessional. Not to mention the fact that there was nobody there, at least at the time I was there. Overall my experience was negative so I won't return. Oh, on the positive note: at least it's downtown and close to other great venues.

I agree with many of the reviews. The bartenders are unimpressive and $8 for Blue Moon? Please..
Packed to the max, total chick fest (beware ladies..if you're on the prowl). The band Rubix Cube was good, but not "wow". Thank goodness I was part of a closed off VIP section, otherwise don't go, you'll be sorry. Hence my vote is "Skip"
Great Band, Horrible Bartenders
by Mary234 at Citysearch
I went there with a bunch of friends a week ago for my birthday. The band Rubix Cube was awesome. Expect a packed venue and a long line outside. The only thing I would complain about are the horrible bartenders at the main bar. One decided she wouln't serve my cousin for no particular reason or accept her card for a tab. And this was after waiting about 15 minutes to get her attention. I guess she just didn't like the way my cousin did her hair b/c knowing her she would have said nothing rude. The band was close to the stage and giving out drink tickets to whoevers bday it was. I wasn't close enough to the stage but when I mentioned it was my bday to another bartender he said "that's nice" $25 for a tab. The service was altogether so bad my friends didn't even bother trying to get drinks. If the manager is reading this, I'm sure you would make much more bar revenue with nicer employees. At least ones that don't act as if they are doing a favor if they choose to serve you after waiting 15 min at the bar.
Canal Room is a great place for concerts!
by Melissa2287 at Citysearch
I actually really like the Canal Room. I'm surprised about the bad comments.
I've only been there twice to see concerts. Enjoyed the shows and the bouncers and everyone was so nice and friendly.
My only downfall about the place is how out of the way and almost hidden it is. I took a taxi there because I was coming from 41st street and broadway. He could hardly find it and I was trying to help him and I couldn't even do that. Eventually we both found it, but that was the only annoying part.
- Pros: Nice people, Great concerts
- Cons: Out of the way
The Best 80s Party in NYC!!!
by Funman at Citysearch
I went to go see Back To The Eighties Show last Saturday night with the band Rubix Kube and they were amazing. It was every hit songs from the 80s. My group had the best time. It was packed with beautiful people. It was a party from the second you walk in! Its not about bottles, hip hop or posers only about the fun. Loved it! We are already planning our next trip back to the Canal Room.
- Pros: Rubix Kube the band rocks!!!
- Cons: None
