The Scene – Downtown's club of the moment closely resembles the apartment everyone wishes for. Pristine hardwood floors, Eames chairs and chocolate-brown leather couches combine for a mod appeal. A raised VIP section gives 10 banquettes a bird's-eye view over the dance floor, as well as a fast-track entrance into the sleek space. The crowd--a mix of music industry insiders such as Stretch Armstrong and members of the Roots and Sugar Hill Gang, glossy fashion types and Williamsburg hipsters--mingles seamlessly. – – The Draw – While the club does have a velvet rope, the…

The Best 80s Party in NYC!!!

by Funman at Citysearch

I went to go see Back To The Eighties Show last Saturday night with the band Rubix Kube and they were amazing. It was every hit songs from the 80s. My group had the best time. It was packed with beautiful people. It was a party from the second you walk in! Its not about bottles, hip hop or posers only about the fun. Loved it! We are already planning our next trip back to the Canal Room.

  • Pros: Rubix Kube the band rocks!!!
  • Cons: None

Good Music, Good Crowd, TERRIBLE SERVICE

by mricecream007 at Citysearch

I've gone to Canal Room plenty of times and I've always enjoyed the music there. As a DJ the guys who do the Freedom Party every Friday night inspire me with the songs that they play. I went on a Saturday for the first time a week ago. There were different DJs playing more recent music, it was still good though. The crowd was filled to the rafters with beautiful ladies...very pleasant crowd. I went for a birthday party and I was in VIP in that club for the first time. It's kind of small, not many seats for people who are buying bottles. Plus we ran out of glasses and it took a very long time to get more.

My friends who were there already bought TWO bottles and when we tried to buy a third they told us that we could pay $100 for Grey Goose so we agreed. Then we were told that it was going to be $130 and that they could only pour the Grey Goose in two 32 oz water bottles.... I'm NOT making this up. So we obviously didn't go for that one. Then I ventured out to the bar where I was COMPLETELY IGNORED BY THE BARTENDER FOR HALF AN HOUR. I was staring dead at her and she skipped right over me until I walked away in disgust, swearing that this bar wouldn't get a dime of my money. And all I wanted was a glass of cranberry juice. It would have taken a lot shoter time than the Long Island Iced Teas she was pouring by the dozens for everyone else.

This is a nice spot and definitely good DJs spin there, but they need to step up their service game big time. Their bartenders work slow and are rude and the VIP service is atrocious.

  • Pros: Great Music, Beatiful, Classy Crowd
  • Cons: TERRIBLE SERVICE...DON'T GO FOR A BIRTHDAY OR EVEN A DRINK!!!!!

I just read your review and I really hope you have the chance to come to the page again, because I'd like you to clariy what you meant by "the crowd was all dark." I won't put any of my conclusions here as to what I believe you meant by it, because I'm going to give you the chance to explain yourself. I just really, really hope that you are not referring to race because in this day and age, it would be complete b.s., especially when it comes to music of all things. There are musical artists from every single ethnic background, the world over, so you could never really be talking about race, now could you?

Please do explain yourself..and please be respectful as I am being.
