This place really sucks!. First of all, I would like to say that you could not even pay me to go back to this place. The beers are expensive, the manager or owner whoever (Indian guy) is rude and unprofessional. Not to mention the fact that there was nobody there, at least at the time I was there. Overall my experience was negative so I won't return. Oh, on the positive note: at least it's downtown and close to other great venues.

Skip. I agree with many of the reviews. The bartenders are unimpressive and $8 for Blue Moon? Please..

Packed to the max, total chick fest (beware ladies..if you're on the prowl). The band Rubix Cube was good, but not "wow". Thank goodness I was part of a closed off VIP section, otherwise don't go, you'll be sorry. Hence my vote is "Skip"

Great Band, Horrible Bartenders. I went there with a bunch of friends a week ago for my birthday. The band Rubix Cube was awesome. Expect a packed venue and a long line outside. The only thing I would complain about are the horrible bartenders at the main bar. One decided she wouln't serve my cousin for no particular reason or accept her card for a tab. And this was after waiting about 15 minutes to get her attention. I guess she just didn't like the way my cousin did her hair b/c knowing her she would have said nothing rude. The band was close to the stage and giving out drink tickets to whoevers bday it was. I wasn't close enough to the stage but when I mentioned it was my bday to another bartender he said "that's nice" $25 for a tab. The service was altogether so bad my friends didn't even bother trying to get drinks. If the manager is reading this, I'm sure you would make much more bar revenue with nicer employees. At least ones that don't act as if they are doing a favor if they choose to serve you after waiting 15 min at the bar.

Canal Room is a great place for concerts!. I actually really like the Canal Room. I'm surprised about the bad comments.

I've only been there twice to see concerts. Enjoyed the shows and the bouncers and everyone was so nice and friendly.

My only downfall about the place is how out of the way and almost hidden it is. I took a taxi there because I was coming from 41st street and broadway. He could hardly find it and I was trying to help him and I couldn't even do that. Eventually we both found it, but that was the only annoying part.

The Best 80s Party in NYC!!!. I went to go see Back To The Eighties Show last Saturday night with the band Rubix Kube and they were amazing. It was every hit songs from the 80s. My group had the best time. It was packed with beautiful people. It was a party from the second you walk in! Its not about bottles, hip hop or posers only about the fun. Loved it! We are already planning our next trip back to the Canal Room.

Good Music, Good Crowd, TERRIBLE SERVICE. I've gone to Canal Room plenty of times and I've always enjoyed the music there. As a DJ the guys who do the Freedom Party every Friday night inspire me with the songs that they play. I went on a Saturday for the first time a week ago. There were different DJs playing more recent music, it was still good though. The crowd was filled to the rafters with beautiful ladies...very pleasant crowd. I went for a birthday party and I was in VIP in that club for the first time. It's kind of small, not many seats for people who are buying bottles. Plus we ran out of glasses and it took a very long time to get more.

My friends who were there already bought TWO bottles and when we tried to buy a third they told us that we could pay $100 for Grey Goose so we agreed. Then we were told that it was going to be $130 and that they could only pour the Grey Goose in two 32 oz water bottles.... I'm NOT making this up. So we obviously didn't go for that one. Then I ventured out to the bar where I was COMPLETELY IGNORED BY THE BARTENDER FOR HALF AN HOUR. I was staring dead at her and she skipped right over me until I walked away in disgust, swearing that this bar wouldn't get a dime of my money. And all I wanted was a glass of cranberry juice. It would have taken a lot shoter time than the Long Island Iced Teas she was pouring by the dozens for everyone else.

This is a nice spot and definitely good DJs spin there, but they need to step up their service game big time. Their bartenders work slow and are rude and the VIP service is atrocious.

To 123Kitty. I just read your review and I really hope you have the chance to come to the page again, because I'd like you to clariy what you meant by "the crowd was all dark." I won't put any of my conclusions here as to what I believe you meant by it, because I'm going to give you the chance to explain yourself. I just really, really hope that you are not referring to race because in this day and age, it would be complete b.s., especially when it comes to music of all things. There are musical artists from every single ethnic background, the world over, so you could never really be talking about race, now could you?

Please do explain yourself..and please be respectful as I am being.

Worst Club Experience Ever. I waited 45 minutes in line to get into Canal Room for my birthday party. My friends that were right behind me waited 1-1/2 hrs to get in. Management waited till midnight to let people in so that they would have to pay the admission fee, even if they were on guest list. And during the wait, the club was nowhere near full. I used to frequent this place often and I called it my favorite place to party for the last 2 years. I am not blind to clubbing queues and costs. But this whole experience was ridiculous. I have never been so disappointed in a club. I will never come here again.

Horrible Bar - DO NOT COME HERE , lying to customers , long lines just to force people to pay cover,. I was appalled by how horrible this place is . We had a friend's birthday party here. She was told that people before 12pm on her list will get in . We had over 40 people waiting in line outside starting at 10:30 pm. They did not let people into the bar even though the bar was empty inside. (I was inside so I can attest to that). They forced people to stand on line and wait until past 12pm so they can charge a ridiculous $20 per person cover. What is the point of having a birthday guest list here if they force you to wait online regardless. The point of a guest list is to ensure the birthday party will get in. Our friends had no problem with paying cover but they were ridiculous and pretentious . They asked a guy (not our friend) with a polo shirt to step aside while they let people with tee shirts in. Once that fella dished out money to the forced bottle service, they let him in. If this was a super upscale crowd or place, I can imagine why. But this is far from it. At the end of night, half the birthday girl's party never made it inside. Ironically, the bar was never packed either so it's not due to OVER packing of people. Good luck to this place in staying in business. Keep pissing off your customers and the word of mouth will spread. I read other simliar negative reviews and I wish we knew before we picked this horrible place. The DJ was great (DJ Nokom?) but you can find him playing in other venues anyway so no need to stop here and be treated terribly .

Don't bother booking private events here. They don't return their phone calls or emails. Not only frustrating, but pretty unprofessional.
