Get out your Subway maps and take note- All New Yorkers know the best place to get tickets for theatre shows is the TKTS Ticket Booth, at the Marriott Marquis on West 46th Street between Broadway and 8th Avenue. The general cost is 25% to 50% off the regular theatre ticket price. Tickets are available on the day of the show. HOW TO GET TICKETS: Its a democratic line- first come, first served (or something like that)! In foul weather and in fair, the TKTS booth is open when it rains, nearly a microsecond after the first drop of precipitation hits the sidewalk, an umbrella salesman will walk by hawking his wares- a selection of black expandable umbrellas, whose use will last possibly until the rain subsides, but more possibly will keep you dry just for the length of time it takes to get to the booth and get your theatre tickets and get back to your room- the great thing is that there is plenty of cover for you to wait in line at the Marriott Marquis. Take the N Train to 49th Street, and leave the station at the 47th Street exit, then walk down one block to the hotel. Take a B, D, F or V train to Rockefeller Center and walk West to the Marriott Marquis. Take the 1 Train to 50th Street and walk down Broadway to the Marriott Marquis, or take the 2 Train to 42nd Street and walk up Broadway to 46th Street. Take the C Train to 50th Street and walk over to Broadway and then walk down to the Marriott Marquis. Take the 104 Bus to 47th Street. TIPS: You gotta have cash- they dont take plastic! Also go with someone else- one can leave the line and check the board and ask questions from the available TKTS staff (they generally wear blue shirts and stand in front of the exit gate). And always have alternate choices for shows you want to see.
Pros: bets theatre prices
Cons: people, people, people...
