What People Are Saying About Daisy May's BBQ

The Scene – The interior of this corner spot is handsomely decorated in bright wood. Formerly a narrow counter with a few seats, it has expanded to include a full dining room. – – The Food – Rather than limiting the menu to one type of masterful barbecue, Daisy May's offers a sampler of several regional styles. Pork ribs come Kansas City-style, with a sweet, smoky glaze, or with a hotter Memphis-style dry rub. Choosing favorites is moot, though, amid so much super-tender meat. Coarse-chopped brisket tastes of smoke and garlic; pulled pork has a mellow, vinegary bite.…

  1. All in all the place is a bit pricey, and considering it's ridiculous location, they shouldn't be charging what they do, however, Daisy May's really can't be beat, and it's worth the trek.
  2. Service was great, atmosphere is bland and boring as was the food.

  1. came away from the experience realizing that I paid too much for the food and the service was a tad too pushy.
  2. The pork was tender and the salt and the honey enhanced bbq sauce was nice but if anyone goes to Daisy May's for the half pig, be wary of possible additional charges for people after the sixth.

#1 BBQ in NYC

by worldchampion

Seriously the best BBQ I have EVER had! I order a "Whole Pork Butt" for my family and I which came with cole slaw, Texas Toast, collard greens and baked beans with burnt ends. My southern family was well impressed and proud to know that I'm eating well in this city that is full of faux BBQ joints. I heart Daisy May's BBQ U.S.A.

NOT NYC's best BBQ place. Buying the hype will cost you$$$$

by FoodWatcher

$33.50 for one beef rib and two sides, PLEASE. I had it and the only thing that stands out is that theres a little more meat on the one rib than your average beef rib dinner. Go online and check their menu OVER prices: $4.50 for a mason jar of sweet tea (keep the jar and give me bottomless refills), $4.00 for a red velvet CUPCAKE! Gotta hand it to the owners carrying huge $ack$ of profit to the bank. I can't say enough, $4.00 for a CUPCAKE?! Food Network, not everyone can be as frivolous with expense as you when it comes to dining. NYTimes, must have been a great free meal?

The premium price I paid for an "Oklahoma Jumbo Beef Rib Plate Special", I can enjoy so much more at a Brazilian Churrascaria restaurant for a little more cost, which is all you can eat that includes multiple cuts of awesome rotiserie BBQ meat (beef, pork, chicken and lamb) and an outrageous salad bar. There's allot of hype stirred up about this place and kudos to the hyper uppers. Sorry NYC, ya'll missing out on some Awesome BBQ outside of this joint.

  • Pros: Dress Totally casual, t-shirt, shorts and flip flops!
  • Cons: Did I mention Premium Price$$$$ for picnic dining?

DON'T GO

Contributor

The food was so-so. We bought a bottle of wine and they served it with plastic cups. I tried to order brisket with bread. The check-out girl tells me it comes with two sides. I inform her there is option for a plate that comes with two sides or I can order an entree and a side, which I am doing. She tries to tell me 2 sides with an entree as a plate is the same price as 1 side with an entree, which she eventually admitted was incorrect. And for what it was, the portions weren't particularly big or cheap.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: not cheap, middle of nowhere, bad service, food mediocre

D-f'in-licious

In a city like New York, you wouldn't necessarily expect there to be such a plethora of barbecue joints, but we are in luck, and i'm not one to complain. Daisy May's is by far the best there is, the pulled pork is sweet and juicy, the baked beans with burnt ends are heavenly! The best thing (IMHO) is the sweet tea, which comes in a take-home mason jar. All in all the place is a bit pricey, and considering it's ridiculous location, they shouldn't be charging what they do, however, Daisy May's really can't be beat, and it's worth the trek.

  • Pros: Pulled Pork from Hog Heaven
  • Cons: Far from Anything...Annnnnything
