Awful Seamstress work

This is my experience with Carmen, the seamstress at Alpians Garment care.

I was in NYC for business and for a birthday celebration. I took in a Silk georgette crepe Eileen Fisher dress that needed to be hemmed just about half an inch. I went to this person on the recommendation of another tailor at Rubrikon Tailoring, I was told she is very good, as I was hesitant taking this silk dress to a cleaners seamstress. He assured me she was very good.

First I was charged $65, when on the wall it states $35 for a dress hem ( I didn't care as long as it's a fantastic job).

I got a dress back with a hem that was wavy, uneven and puckering, and very obviously puckering and pulling in all the wrong ways. I picked up the dress at 4:30 pm Sat. I got back to my hotel very eager to see this amazing job that I was promised and I saw the awful, amateur hemming, that I could have done myself. YES, that bad!!! I called and asked if this can be fixed and they said to bring it back. Keep in mind they close at 5pm. So i take it back and after trying it on, she doesn't see anything wrong with this dress....I thought I was going mad at this point. So I ask her to fix it (because I need it for that evening, which I made sure she knows) and she said she can't, so of course at this point I'm losing my temper....Long frustrating story short, she fixed it, but again it looks like a child fixed it in home ec class, and it is still puckering and pulling. Now I have to find another seamstress to fix this awful job.

Her work is awful and as I said I could have done this, it's so bad. OHHH, and it states in writing on the cash register that no monies will be refunded for work done. No wonder they have to write that, as I'm sure they were losing cash for all the awful work they perform...AND not even an apology for this, not from her, and not from the manager of this awful place. And I lost 45 minutes from the dinner celebration. Moral of the story don't go to a cleaners tailor/seamstress as was my first gut instinct.

Simply the BEST!

I go out of my way to bring my clothing to Alpian's and I am very proud to say, it is worth it!!

Alpian's has always offered me world class service, world class quality cleaning, and fair pricing.

After some bad experiences at other cleaners, it is a great feeling not having to worry about my clothing when I take it to Alpian's. I recommend Alpian's to anyone who cares about their clothing.

Fantastic Experience

Alpian's not only provided exceptional service, they were friendly and reliable.

I would trust them with any garment, and am confident it would be returned in pristine condition.

I have used them on incredibly delicate/fragile pieces, cocktail dresses, and more every dya pieces such as sweaters.

They never, ever let me down.

Awful service

This place is overpriced, has poor customer service, and employees/owner who refuse to take any responsibility (or even admit they are in charge).

I was a first-time customer, brought in three items for a basic cleaning job (black cocktail dress w/ deodorant stains, shorts with no visible stains that needed to be refreshed, and a silk top with a few small spots). When I came to pick up my items, I was told the shorts had ‘extra stains’ which needed more work, and would be delivered the next day. What extra stains? Both an employee and I looked carefully over all the clothes and marked all the stains, and there was nothing on the shorts. I told this to the employee who returned my other two items, Omar. Omar explained that the cleaning process tends to ‘bring out’ stains not visible to the naked eye. Sounded to me like a prelude to a botched job and the standard “it was not us, the problems was there to begin with” explanation . I asked to speak to the manager. Omar said the manager left, that they were already closed for the day (the clock behind him showed otherwise). I turned to the man standing behind the other counter, who seemed completely uninterested in what was going on, and asked if he was the manager. He says he’s Alpian, the owner, that he was doing dry-cleaning twice the time I was alive, bluh, bluh. Then he repeats his employee’s explanation about the ‘extra stains’ and the delay to deliver my shorts. Fine. I show him another dress I need dry-cleaned, a DVF cocktail dress with sweat stains. I ask him to look over it, and mark on my receipt all the stains and flaws, as well as the make and fabric, so that we have no misunderstandings if something happens to it. he grumbles some more, but agrees, and hands it back to Omar. Omar looks over it for another few minutes then tells me not to give it to them if I’m not comfortable. The owner says I’m being ridicules, and storms off. I give up, and ask another employee for the manager’s name and whether he’ll be there tomorrow, and told he would not. I turn to Omar, who finally says HE’S the one who will be in charge. I guess he was the manager after all. Fortunately, I got back my shorts, and they were fine. The cocktail dress, upon extra inspection, has a few shiny spots on the front, either from steaming or the solutions. It would obviously not be worth going back and pointing it out, since no one is going to care/admit responsibility, or even show basic courtesy (maybe they should change their moto to ”the customer is always ridicules first”).

I can't believe the service....

The first time I sent them stuff to clean, since I was just trying them out, I sent them some oldish clothes that were on their way to being Salvation Army contributions. Big mistake ... they came back looking like new and I had to wear them again for another season!

Last week I sent a new white wool sweater that had half of a bottle of Merlot spilled on it while I was on vacation. The stains had set for over a week. It just came back, with no trace of prior injury, and bright white to boot.

I hope they never go out of business.
